 to Senator

Thank you for your message regarding the reopening of California's bowling centers. I appreciate hearing from you as I share your concerns.

I co-signed a letter that was delivered to Governor Newsom today requesting that he re-evaluate the status of bowling centers under his "Blueprint for a Safer Economy" in order to aid in the responsible re-opening of an integral part of many local communities. The letter can be read at https://bates.cssrc.us/sites/default/files/201009_BowlingCenters.pdf.

Please know that I will continue to do what I can to reopen more of our state in a safe and responsible manner.

Sincerely,

PATRICIA C. BATES

Senator, 36th District

South Orange and North San Diego Counties

There is no "Fremont" county in California.

There is no "Fremont" county in California.

Sorry, you're right. I meant to say Alameda. My bad.

Anywho, talked to a PSO today who runs a standalone shop in Sacramento, and got a bit more of the lowdown of what's going to happen here.

Some alleys are getting around the shutdown by adding a room with refrigeration so they can sell essentials and prepared meals according to the state's mandate, so their business can be classified as "essential" (they are selling the right products to meet that classification), so they can open up.

Apparently, Lake Bowl in Folsom has been doing this since March or April, so they have been open ever since.

Foothills Bowl in Auburn isn't going to open, despite the fact that the county is in orange so they could open up. Apparently, the average age of the patrons there is between 60 and 65, and the owner really doesn't want to risk that being shut down again. His take on it is that if everything else gets shut down again, at least we'll have a sterile place to go.

Fireside Lanes is done with their remodeling, though there are a couple more cosmetic things they are working on. New lanes, new settee area, new pin deck, new pinsetters, etc. They are going to try to open, despite us being in Red, but open to only "private parties". Steve basically doesn't have much of a choice, because of him bleeding money from everything. I don't know if him opening and possibly getting shut down again will impact what the PWBA wants to do, but he'll cross that road when he gets to it.

Mardi Gras Lanes (or whatever they are called now) won't be opening anytime soon. They'll have to wait for state mandate, as they have some other financial issues to deal with.

Country Club Lanes is just waiting for the county to turn orange. As they own the land and the building around them, they know they'll make up the money just in parties and open play.

Strikes Elk Grove (now called "The Alley") won't be opening anytime soon. They're stuck waiting on the state and the county.

NuGeneration Lanes in Yuba City is open, despite being Sutter County being in Red. I don't know how or why; don't shoot the messenger.

Beale Lanes (Beale AFB) is open, but they are letting the county take the lead on their status, despite being the AFB. Yuba County (where Beale and Marysville are located) are in the Red.

Going south, everything in San Joaquin county (read: Stockton) is still out.

Further south than that, Valley bowl in Madera is open - to a degree - even though Madera county is in Purple (widespread). They are letting kids come in - controlled - as the school district is allowing bowling to be used for Physical Education class. So they have a way to open there, but I don't know how they are getting paid for it. The same is happening in Turlock as well.

That's all I know for the entire Central California valley.

California Gov. Newsom just banned singing. You watch, he'll get re-elected.  You get the government you deserve.

And you fans of Fauci should read his paper on the 1918 flu epidemic in which he states that most of those deaths were cause by secondary bacteria caused by the wearing of masks.

Some people need to research what a DNA PCR test is, and how unreliable the data we are given may the media is.

So many people in alternative media have been dissecting this for months. I think the best go to place is thehighwire

If someone wants to feed off of main stream media and corrupt politicians fear porn, and then regurgitate statistics, there is really nothing to say to them.

So happy to hear this, I've been railing against the PCR test for months now. But don't listen to me, listen to Kary Mullis, the inventor of the PCR test:

"If they can find this virus in you at all – and with PCR, if you do it well, you can find almost anything in anybody.”

"To test for that one thing and say it has a special meaning is, I think, the problem. The measurement for it is not exact; it is not as good as the measurement for apples. The tests are based on things that are invisible and the results are inferred in a sense. It allows you to take a miniscule amount of anything and make it measureable and then talk about it.”

"PCR is just a process that allows you to make a whole lot of something out of something. It doesn’t tell you that you are sick, or that the thing that you ended up with was going to hurt you or anything like that.”

From EA Dublin Bowl, Dublin California

Quote
FINALLY - GREAT NEWS!!!
We'll be opening soon!
Hello Everyone:

YEA, YEA YEA, YES, YES, YES,we’ll be opening soon!

As you may have seen or heard, Alameda County has given the OK for bowling centers to open at 25% capacity.

We are looking to re-open for business during the first week of November. However, this could change based on a number of factors. One thing, we want to make sure that Alameda County remains in the Orange Tier for at least one more week. The last thing we want to do is to open up for a few days only to have to shut back down again.

At first we’ll be offering open bowling only. During this time, we’ll be putting together leagues and figuring out how to operate them with capacity limits. Soon, you’ll be getting calls/emails from either the bowl and/or your league secretary asking if you will be joining us this season. The middle of November is our current estimate of when most leagues will start.

We will be keeping you informed through these newsletters of the specifics of our re-opening and all matters concerning your leagues.

For those of you who wrote letters and emails to our local officials, we THANK YOU very much. We think this played a part in getting bowling centers in Alameda County to open.

Finally we’ll get to see you soon,

Peter

Amazing how the California politicians have decided on when to start allowing bowling alleys to open.

So, after the election? Na, just a coincidence probably.

Sounds like they can open today if they wanted to, but they are erring on the side of caution and waiting a couple of weeks.

that's what they are doing in the Sacramento valley. Right now, the only alleys open are for open bowling only, and nothing else. They are deciding about what to do with leagues, then are leaving it up to the board for each league. Rationale for this is exactly the same: They need to know what contingencies are going to be in case they get shut down again, which could happen as early as the next 3 weeks to the end of the year, depending on how people handle the situation.. It wouldn't do any league any good to only be running for five weeks.

So Open bowling it is for now.

Granda Bowl in Livermore California sent out an email stating they are open as of Friday Oct 23rd.

My timeline was obviously wrong. They didn't wait until after the election to allow businesses to reopen.

I haven't heard anything specific on the SoCal centers. LA County is the California problem child, and the surrounding Counties stay in line. I hope you get to throw the orb soon.

I'm working on finishing my degree at Berkeley for this year and probably next, so it might be a while before I'm bowling regularly again.

I will still take my group to Vegas for the USBC Open Championships, but I don't have time for leagues with work(job), my course work and research/writing my dissertation.

You're right. They're in the purple, along with Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, and Imperial Counties. Your best bet is going to be in Orange or San Diego Counties, make your way up the coast, or into Bakersfield, but even those will require help from the alleys there to get around some of the restrictions. Either way, you're looking at at least a 45 minute drive just to bowl (I'm picking that time out of my head based on drive time from, say, the Garment District or the Grove down to Disneyland).

So it really all depends on if they want to do what they are doing up here in NorCal.

Ventura county is in red and close to moving to orange where bowling could open. Looking at the statistics, Ventura county is going to remain in the red tier because of the case rate. It looks like the best chance to move to orange for bowling will be the additional health equity metric. It needs to be under 2.2% and was actually at 2.7% this past week. The positivity rate has been meeting the orange tier for weeks already

With all your life adventures, I'm almost afraid to ask what graduate degree you're pursuing.  ;)

I'm glad to hear you're still doing Nationals coordination. But given the most recent US outbreaks, I'm not sure Vegas is going to happen in 2021. At least not in the first half of the year. I have several friends who live in Vegas. Between their Covid stories and what I'm reading about the area, I'm not stepping foot there. That's just me and it might be an overreaction, but until there is a proven vaccine, no thanks.
