My personal "limit to nonsense" is at about 12 balls. 10, to be serious, that's the maximum number I try to keep at a time. It seems to be the number that I can frequently use in training and league/tournaments, often enough to have a feel for them and having enough fall-back options if I should need a replacement. It is also a space problem...

Depends, if you're still trying to use them all in your 1 night a week league, LOL.  If you're just collecting then it's never too many.

I think one has reached that point when they need to put a rack or more in their rooms to hold excessive bowling balls.

I used to keep 20 balls in the house at all times plus four in the car and finally realized it's just too many.

I will wait to Axewelder will chime in on this one, but I have 2 - 12 ball racks
full and 12 in the trunk, for a total of 36 ! If I did not work in a pro shop, and did not drill my own equip, I probably would have under 10.

I agree w/ Monster Pike, I have probably 15-20 bowling balls at home, but I don't try to throw them all on league night unless I'm really lost and fishing for something.  I take 4 and a spare ball to league (5 + spare to PBA X league or tournaments).  My hobby is trying out different bowling balls and drills because I'm a student of the game.

Its bad at my house since my wife and I both bowl, and my 9year old son just started bowling leagues. I have a closet with a ball rack that has 21 balls the floor has 10-15. The spare bedroom has our roller bags and other bags that have 20-25 balls.

I figured I had too many a few yrs ago, when in my room I had 20 bowling balls lined up around the base of the walls.

After that, I sold a bunch of them, and cut down to 8.   because all i had was two 4 ball rollers, to keep bowling balls in.

Last year, I had 30+ in the kitchen/dining room
24 in boxes in my office
9 in the car
a dozen on the back porch...
and a couple of dozen in the garage.

I'm now down to 2 double ball totes, with balls a 3 ball roller w/balls...
and 3 more coming in...

My wife gave me that look, again...
At least she was smiling, and had a twinkle in her eyes.

I'll be getting Social Security next year...
it will all go into bowling balls.

Maybe this topic can lead to a new way to bowl leagues...

One ball each week...same ball all night...and you can't use the same ball more than one week all season.

That would mean around 35 or 36 different balls...

And that means I still need to buy 10 or 12 more...~smiling~

I have about 20 or so NIB plus the 4 I have drilled.

I can still only bring myself to have 4 drilled at a time. The NIB collection could never be big enough. I guess it depends on the person.

When the person owning the balls doesn't improve his game.

There's one guy, THAT guy, on our Friday night league that has EVERY LANE#1 ball ever made.  And he brings at least 10 balls with him to league night and uses each and every one.

His average is 167.

I have forgotten how many I currently own. I have 5 lockers rented at the lanes with 3-5 balls in each locker. I can't remember all the locker numbers. I probably have 8-10 laying around the house and 6 in the yard as deco.

I think this is too many.

I have had 320-330 at one time, right now went out and stop counting racks and piles at 230. That does not include the 20 balls in a closet next to me. Still have around 260 here at home and 40 more in storage with about 10 being NIB.

cos each ball has got a specific condition that they will perform well in and its the challenge of being able to match up the ball according to the oiling that matters most

bowling keeps me entertained - constantly.  People with low averages need more new balls than than those with high averages because each new ball is like a bit of magic.  I need all the magic I can get - it is true that practicing with my straight ball 20 to 30 games per week put some magic in my game....still...am about to look at ebay for a super ball at a super price.  Perhaps a rubber ball for spares........

My collection is limited by space - not need.  This is not how I earn a single cent.  This is my fun...perhaps not forever....

If I didn't bowl I would golf.  How many clubs can be your bag?

Apparently I have too many.  I have four that I throw, including a spare ball, and 4 that I don't.  Every time I mention getting a new ball someone in my family is like you already have too many.  I say to them, apparently you don't know the people on BR .  I'd like to have about 6-8 then I'd be good.

But you should admit you have too many if you can't name them all and how they're drilled.

We should set up a weekly meeting for Bowling Ball Junkie Anonymous.   I am at 20 right now and I want to get rid of 4-6, but I like them.  I used to have balls that I didnt care if I sold, but now I don't have that ball.  They are all family.   How could I sell my Original Inferno?   It's the Original Inferno!  How could I sell the original Black Widow?  or the Blue Vibe?  I can't.

I think where I go wrong is the 16lb arsenal that sits there, that I don't use.  I only use 15 now but the 4 16lbers, are still family.  A BW solid, a Big Shot, an AMB Centaur, and a Hyjinx.   They may have to go, but I'm putting it off.
