Lost in the Sport
« on: April 30, 2018, 02:20:55 PM »
Good Afternoon Forum,

I am a bit lost for my passion for bowling, it is something that I have loved for a long time. I haven't been bowling these last 3 weeks as I couldn't take the pain that I endure. The pain I get is on my slide foot (left), now this injury isnt from bowling. I was hit on my motorcycle 3 years ago and did PT and normal activity I have no issues. When I bowl league it puts a constant stress on my knee, and then I cant be consistent for bowling. I also struggle with my elbow popping and thumb cracking ( not when bowling). I have the proper fit for my equipment and get that regular checked, I just have a broken body at the age of 31. I also have other injuries over the years but who hasnt.

Now that you have a little background I have a few ideas as what I should do, but need some guidance. When I first started bowling with a house ball, I learned to bowl thumbless so I have some practice with that but its been many years. I was thinking of going back to thumbless, and making it a two handed approach. I would think that this would take some of the pressure off of my arm and be balance between the two. What about dropping in weight from a 14lb -15lb? I am a bit lost on what to do with my slide foot, I already use the max slide of 10 patch. I know this part is hard to critique without any video. I was thinking of maybe switching to lefty, but I have also had surgery twice on my right knee. I would hate to invest all this time and then hurt my right knee.

Sorry for the long post, I am a passionate bowler who is lost on how to continue with his passion.

Have you tried kinesiology tape or rock tape? Works wonders for my aches and pains. Or take dooms advice and rest, and heal up.

Agree with Doom.  Take a good rest to heal first.

Then, how much slide are you getting with those maximum slide soles?  I believe in getting maximum slide to burn off energy and saving stress on the knee.  A shorter slide or sudden stop causes pain in my knee.  I cannot get enough on synthetic approaches (house does not do enough cleaning of approaches) with normal slide soles so I have to use teflon pucks which I make myself.

PM me for more detailed instructions on the teflon pucks.

I have tried the tape and it doesn’t help.  I just starting doing massage therapy but that price quickly adds up.

I would be very interested in these teflon pucks. I also found a video from this winter, and it appears I dont slide as much as I thought I did. It appears my heel lands first and its more of a plant than a slide. I have people watch me before and they say I do slide, how do I fix my slide issue? I tried uploading the video from my phone but it kept crashing.

Get your left knee over your toes, and increase that forward spine tilt. Can't go heel first if your center of gravity is further forward.

do you have any tips on forcing your body to do this? I would guess practicing one step drills?

I guess this (excellent advice) is not an option?

I haven’t bowled in 4 weeks to rest my body, however if I don’t change something the pain will just come back
