Title: Ball help
Post by: Anthony LaMagna on October 12, 2019, 10:16:26 PM
Bowling in a competitive men’s league, I find my Black Widow pink by the third game hooks too much.  I like the carry, especially knocking out the corner pins.  It’s drilled pin up.  Looking for something with like carry that I can get down the lane.  I’m looking at the Hammer Statement Pearl, Black Widow Gold, Roto Grip No Rules Pearl and Storm Hyroad, but am open to suggestions.

Anthony- can you give us your stats?  Things such as rev rate, speed, how you like to play the lanes, etc.  This can give us a better idea of what to suggest.

So far, I can mention this: the Statement Pearl will be stronger than the BW Pink and the BW Gold is nearly identical except maybe 1-2 boards weaker overall.  No Rules Pearl is also very similar in strength to the BW Pink/Gold so you'd be getting a lot of overlap.  The Hy-Road would be a possibility but knowing more of your game first can definitely help.

If the Pink is too much, then I would get out of that price point altogether regardless of manufacturer.  If you want to stay with Hammer; then a Cherry Vibe might be a good choice.  The lower price points still have rocks with plenty of pop and entry angle.  Other balls in that price point that could be a good third game option would be the Columbia Beast, Ebonite Destiny, and Storm Match Up.

+1 but would also add lots of love for After Darks, Hustles (Ink especially), Counter Attacks,  etc.

Going from a Pink to anything in one of the bottom lines is quite the drastic jump though. Well, except for a couple of the Hustle balls at least.

Depends on just how much the Pink is overreacting. The Flawless would be a pretty good option in Hammer's line, the Ripcord from Motiv comes to mind as well. Then you've got the White Hot Badger, maybe Honey Badger but that might not be any more usable than the Pink for what you want.

if the pink hooks too much by the end, but you like the carry, wouldn't flipping to the black widow gold make sense?

Not really, they're pretty close overall. If it's too dry for the Pink it will be too dry for the Gold too.

Hy-Road or IQ Tour emerald might be more in that middle goldilocks zone.  Also Honey Badger gives you the skid flip of Pink on lower volume as well as Ripcord (and Hydra for even less volume) as already mentioned outside EBI family.

Thanks, everyone.  I’m down to Emerald green Iq and cherry vibe.  Thank you for your help.

Vibes are always good options on sport patterns.  Also I really like the Hero.  Low rg activator pearl is still tough to beat on flatter pstterns

True.  However this is for a third game or once the track is toasted from all of the higher performance rocks during a men's competitive league.  So even though the balls I mentioned are lower end; with any rev rate on a toasted track, they are still going to provide sufficiently ball motion unless he humming it down there at more than 20mph.  Plus, it may still allow him to straighten his angles a touch allowing him to keep the ball in play longer.
