Title: Ball hooking through the pins. Not rolling. Thoughts?
Post by: lilpossum1 on February 08, 2016, 10:58:56 PM
As I mentioned in another thread, I brought my 300c pearl out of the closet because of needing something weaker and smooth, but above urethane. I have had a lot of shots where the ball hooks and keeps hooking, leaving 4 pins, going heavy though the nose, not carrying the 10 pin correctly... It doesn't look like the ball is getting into a roll in hindsight. I am not sure what the surface is as I just threw it in the bag. It appears to be shiny. Thoughts? It doesn't want to pick up when the lanes are a little slicker, so there can't be a ton of surface. Is that how super smooth balls with controlled drillings appear?

Take an abralon pad to the surface to get it to start a little earlier

assuming the surface is just laneshined from throwing it. i would say the advice above is good. start with a 4000 pad and work your way down from there until you see the desired result

So by taking down the polish, this will allow it to start earlier and burn off energy better? I leave a lot of 9 counts because I don't think it is rolling correctly.

for all you guys who can't get the ball you have to do what you want it to do please get some sanding pads. Go to practice and use them so you know the difference between what the ball does at 500 and 4000. It has been said over and over the surface of the ball is 70% of the balls reaction. It will not hurt the ball to change the surface try it you will like it. This sport is learn learn learn.

When you say no rolling correctly, it can mean different things.  In todays world, for every ball that needs more surface to get into a roll earlier, I see ten that have to much surface for the speed that the bowler is generating.

We play in a world of lots of friction.  I watched literally hundreds of guys sanding balls down at the TAT in Vegas last week, only to see them blow up the heads while gaining no help with the carrydown that was the real problem.

I have been told this has been my issue at times....my rotation is high....is this a culprit?

Nothing a 2-1 can't fix!
