Yep, that is the rack I made the plans for. It was about $10 in materials a year ago. Thanks for posting the pictures. It was very simple to make. Less then 2 hrs.

$10???
where did you find the wood? where the screws or nails free?
$10??? that does not compute??

My hardest part was not finding wood, but finding relatively straight wood.

4 2x3" 8' About $2 each
1 2x6" 8' About $3 each

It was over a year ago. I know the 2x3" were under $2 each and the 2x6" was probably $3 somthing.

I did have a scrap 2x4 for the legs and did already have the screws. Should still be less then $15.

Probably Lowes, maybe home depot

John,

Stop trying to talk people into going to Lowe's.  You know that damn rack cost you over 100 bucks after you continually cut the pieces too short.    And I hope that picture is psaunders', and not yours.  If you drilled that many balls, I would say that you still haven't learned your lesson.    Take that one as you wish.   j/k big man.

ETA, Ebonite makes a nice wooden rack. A bit expensive to buy one, but if you can get a hold of one to measure, you would be able to copy the specs very easily. Holds 12 balls.

If you want really cheap wood ( cost of getting it home) go to K Mart or Wal Mart and ask the Garden Center folks for the wooden racks the bulbs come in on. They throw them away, here. I got over 20 of them, made my grandkids toy shelves, book racks and 4 ball racks. True, you have to tear them apart, but free is hard to beat ! They are 1x4's and some 1x3's, mostly.

I took one at a time home in a Sundance hatchback, but a truck would have been easier.

Measure once, cut twice. It was really $10. Honest. I needed an extra rack for balls that did not fit right.

BX,

John and I like to tease each other about things.  His design is a good one in this case.  Try it out!!!

I made my ball racks from 2 x 10's. Simple shelves and end pieces. I use pet food dishes I get at the dollar store to hold the balls. I never liked the idea of putting all the weight of the ball on 4 small contact points like using rails does.

I have made shevles out of PVC pipes before and noticed that the longer the shelf is, the more the middle would bow with weight. I found that getting a dowel a smaller diameter then the hole (1" pvc, use 3/4" dowel) and slide it in will help with the bowing of the PVC.

I saw one in a pro shop made out of PVC pipes.  Looked sturdy enough.  I just got rid of a Brunswick 5 ft. rack.  Seems when you need them you can't find them and when you don't they are all over the place.

I built one out of 2x4's a couple years back. Lost my measurements I was going to go by, so played it by ear. It spans the whole foot of our king size bed, and holds 16 balls.

Man if I built that I'd have to add a roll out cot cause that's where my wife would have me sleeping. Sixteen balls in the the bedroom is NOT gonna happen.
