Ball recommendation..
« on: July 13, 2022, 08:56:00 PM »
I've not been bowling in a long time, but I've been wanting to go again. I had a MoRich Total Annhilation and loved it. I'll keep my eyes out for one undrilled, but my hopes aren't high. I had a Seismic ball and hated it.

Anyway, looking for something good on most lanes and has tons of hook potential. That was my favorite thing about my MoRich. When I was good, I was really good.

I'm interested in a high end ball.

I like stuff that not everyone has, but I'll just take recommendations for anything and I'll do some more research of my own.

Anyone who is returning to bowling and wants a solid starting point across the board, (or if I was starting over from scratch) I would recommend one of 2 balls.
Storm Phaze 2 or 900 Global Zen.

Neither of these fit the bill for "not everyone has" but... There's a reason for that.
If you want something more obscure, you can look into Swag Bowling, or explore overseas options maybe.

Without knowing much and just going by what you're saying, I'd look at the Upper Mid category for a ball.

900 Global Zen or Zen Soul would probably top that list for some strength with versatility.

New Brunswick Melee Jab Carbon would fit

In terms of something close to a Total Annihilation, I believe it used a core similar to the 3D Offset so the new Hammer 3D Offset could be close in terms of core shape/motion

The New Swagger Showoff by Swag looks pretty promising from the video JR Raymond did on his channel.  I am linking the video below so you can watch what the ball does.  Dont judge it off the first shot.  Watch when he moves across the entire lane.  He has pretty high praise for this ball.

I think the Motiv Pride might be a good option. Lots of hook potential, and I don't see a ton of them on the lanes in my area (for what that's worth).

Take a look at the new balls by Swag.  Fantasy Daze, Black Pearl Treasure or Swagger Showoff are great balls.

If you're a big total annihilation fan/morich fan I'd look into the radical stuff.
Get a solid assymetrical and put a non skid flip layout on it.

A c300 power torq in my eyes would do the trick too...and is a solid color like the total was.
In the bag [Infinite Physix, Volatility Torque, Night Road, Phaze III, Burner Solid, Hustle AU]
*Now Testing* IQ Ruby, Renevant, another IQ Tour solid
Coming soon...???

You are indeed correct. The Hammer 3-D core does look similar to Total Annhilation.

I emailed California Bowling to to see if there's any places that sell the Swagger Showoff in Maryland or one of my surrounding states, hopefully close to the border. I prefer to buy and bowl now, but I'll just order one online if I don't find local.

How do I know which Pin Distance to pick?

The Power Torq is not an asymmetrical even though that ball is really good.  But the OP did say he wants something that not many other people have.  So IMO, companies like Lord Field, Swag, and BIG Bowling would be the route to take.

He could go a little more mainstream going with Radical since he really liked MoRich (both companies being run by the late Mo Pinel).  If he wants to go symmetrical; he could do the new Crypto and if he wants to go asymmetrical; he could go Trail Blazer Solid.

Without knowing more about the OP's specific game, my recommendation is to not go with a high end ball right out of the gate.  I would say to look at getting a good benchmark ball first and then build an arsenal from that point adding both higher and lower end pieces as needed.  Good options for a benchmark ball would include the Storm IQ, Roto Grip Hyped, Motiv Pride, Ebonite GB4, Hammer Fugitive Solid.  This way, the OP can get back into the game well and also not blow a ton of cash right off the bat.

Also, I would definitely recommend talking to a good Pro Shop Operator.  There is no substitute for that, especially getting back into the sport.
Current Ball Arsenal
Heavy:
MOTIV Jackal Legacy
MOTIV Mythic Jackal

Med-Heavy:
MOTIV Trident Odyssey
MOTIV Forge Fire
MOTIV Covert Revolt

Medium:
MOTIV VIP ExJ Sigma
MOTIV Sigma Sting
MOTIV Pride Solid

Medium-Light
MOTIV Venom Shock
MOTIV Tribal Fire

Oh no.. I don't buy cheap balls. Every ball I've owned I believe was $150-$225 range. I can't remember prices it's been so long, but I've had maybe 3 balls. The Total Annhilation I remember was $200-$220 or so from the shop at the bowling alley I was in a league. I had never saw that brand before and it was purple so I bought it. I was one of the only people on the lanes with it.

That's hard to say who to go to. You talk to one person and he says "this guy is the best" then you talk to another who says you gotta see my guy, etc. I used to work with a lady who's Husband owned a bowling shop. It was a stand alone store not near any bowling alley. It was pretty cool to go in there, because the place was a mess from what I remember.

I kind of remember buying my Total Anhilation and going to another alley another bowler recommended. He said he is the only person he will ever go to. This was a long time ago, so no idea now, but I do remember the alley in New Jersey.

The people at California Bowling never answered my email. It's been 8 or 9 days now.
