I wonder if someone can come up with a topic that would be beneficial to bowlers instead of beating a two inch pin to death or a ridiculous ball review. My guess is no this site is worse than the USBC message board
-
Reverse Hammer, you are welcome to start some interesting topics at any time.
-
We haven't had a discussion about grip gloves in a while... ::)
-
imagine coming to website called ball reviews and complaining that it contains reviews of bowling balls........

So what would you like to talk about? What can you bring to the table that will be beneficial to bowlers?

What’s the name of this site again???

An olde but goody conversation back in the day... ''CG does not matter''' that my even bring GTX out of the wood work..:-)
-
We can always go back to arguing about soft urethane, Bowlero's "who cares about bowling", why the NFL is soft compared to rugby, Women's Rugby, and Aussie Rules Football, The Chad, or everyone's most rated G polarizing topic...
Brussel Sprouts: Yes, or No.
;D

I was always looking for a good discussion on the benefits of a semi-fingertip layout.

I think the discussion of "does pineapple belong on pizza" may give brussel sprouts a run for its money.

But this is a bowling site, so maybe we should be asking if pineapple slices make good oil removing pads?

USBC (sucks/is the best) = pages of post

USBC SUCKS!
I love Brussel sprouts!
I love pineapple, especially on pizza!
CG no matter anymore!
I don't even know what a semi-fingertip grip is.
And f*ck Chad! and his sorry azz!

And as expected; Remmah has yet to reappear.
Pineapple only on cake
No to brussel sprouts
I am almost a semi finger tip (slightly below first knuckle)

Oh.. I forgot, and for the record:
Brussel Sprouts are the best when they are sauteed in a skillet (doesn't matter the oil)... to a good solid brown/black, removed, put into a freezer bag, put into a freezer overnight to further harden...
... Then pulled out the next day to be used as ammo for your slingshot, preferably to break the window of the neighborhood kid bully's house.
;D

Semi-fingertip for me.
Pick the ball for the condition at hand.

Keep them raw, make a slaw out of them 👍

Have fun.

LET'S KEEP POLITICS & HATE OUT OF THIS FORUM. WOULD BE QUITE NICE I FIGURE. :o

Does anyone here still use a Thumbillow?
-
Yep.. I still use similar.. ''Magic Carpet''.. remember Ron Clifton...?
-
I'm still a Magic Carpet user, but quite a few guys in my league use the thumb pillows.
-
I tried the Magic Carpet and didn't like it as much as I do the thumbillow.
Quite a few years ago, I bought all the thumbillows Dix Brown had left. I tried his website and now it's gone, so with the last of mine dying, I was in a spot.
I have figured out a way to make my own and actually like the results better than the original at about a third of the cost.
-
Anyone ever try this Thumbs Up - Thumb Straight ?

I've seen it advertised. It seems like it would get in the way of tape, which I always have at least one piece in the ball and usually a couple or more.
I don't really have an issue with keeping my thumb straight either.
-
I've used all three, Magic Carpet, Thumbillow and Thumb Straight.
I don't use any of them now (converted to two-hand mostly, although I do still throw one-handed using different equipment) ... what finally got me in a good spot was changing thumb sizes and pitches. Here's how I'd rank them...
1. Magic Carpet
Pluses: Good quality adhesive, works within a wider range of applications, economical.
Minuses: Will irritate the thumb skin for some people, pinch it a little bit and you will hang up badly
Verdict: Works well and hardly ever wears out, but isn't for everyone
2. Thumbillow
Pluses: Most comfortable by far, doesn't really change the base feel of the ball
Minuses: Isn't durable, isn't available anymore (that I know of)
Verdict: Would probably be tops but I'd hate to get used to using this stuff and not be able to buy it anymore
3. Thumb Straight
Pluses: Pretty durable material, no adhesive necessary
Minuses: Sometimes you have to open up a hole further to install it, easily damaged while removing (and tough to remove; I had to use needle-nose pliers), can be tricky to get it aligned, thumb holes drilled to different depths will cause issues in regards to consistent use
Verdict: Essentially creates a "double pitch" in the thumb hole, meaning the pitch at the base of the thumb and then an exaggerated pitch at the tip. Has the effect of adding additional reverse; it's supposed to promote flattening the thumb but it didn't work for me, and the material is somewhat tacky. I probably wouldn't use it again.

I still use thumb straight in my spare ball because it keeps me from grabbing with my thumb. Tried magic carpet but it irritated the skin on the back of my thumb!

What about Robert "Captain 900" Mushtare? The fact he hasnt thrown any more 900s since 2005 is quite baffling after throwing like 10 in a month (sarcasm). Cant believe it has been 16 years since all that nonsense came about.

Probably has too many eyes(that are not his parents) watching these days. If so, does that mean he can't handle the pressure or was just full of shit to begin with? :o ;D ;D 8)

Milo, as years went by this site was taken over by 12-15 year old kids who have no idea what the real game of bowling is. Used to be a lot of fun with Sawbones and a few more in that era. That time has passed. No real knowledge passed along today. BUT, in all fairness, this site captioned "Ball Reviews"

Yea, this site has had it's challenges. And in full disclosure to a significant degree, by my own hand. ;D

No idea what that is/was, but i am thinking of giving the TurboShur-Cushion a try.

In my opinion, Thumbillow is a better execution of what the Turbo Shur-Cushion is trying to be.
The problem with the Shur-Cushion is the foam is just too flimsy(couldn't think of a better term). It just squashes down and might as well not be there at all. The Thumbillow uses a much more dense foam rubber when kind of forms around your thumb.
I have used all my Thumbillows at this point, but have started making my own. Ironically, I actually use the Shur-Cushion as one of the parts.

I've never used any of these three. I'd never heard of thumb pillow until you guys mentioned it.
I have always contoured my own thumb pillows out of various widths of packing foam that I would normally toss away. Just used an etching knife to create ovals to fit on the backside of my thumb for comfort. Works great for me!

Good to know. And I appreciate the semi DIY approach :)
My thumb hole tape is just blue painters' tape. White is too grabby and black is too slick. Unless someone's got something in the middle...

Every year or so I can't resist telling folks with thumb crutches and thumb problems that it doesn't have to be that way. A few hand and wrist exercises to get your self in shape to hold the ball correctly will do wonders. Next step is finding a ball driller. Not a proshop operator but a ball driller. Sometimes there is a big difference.

Perhaps you can recommend a ball driller who can explain how I can make my thumb not swell or shrink...

Haven't bowled since Feb 2017 due to arthritis in slide foot. Stayed here for a while but it got to be too much for me. Trying to get back into some semblance of shape for an attempt to return. Thanks for remembering; means a lot.

Thanks for the update. Good seeing you post here once again. Been a while it seems. Take care of yourself & be well. Hopefully your return to the lanes is forthcoming soon, if that is your desire. :)
