if you had two of the same ball......
« on: October 01, 2014, 11:43:12 AM »
how would you set up each ball to have a diff ball motion.

I had two hyroads in the past and I did a pin up and pin down at 4" on both and cover oob. NOt much of a difference. couldn't even tell if I was throwing a pin up or pin down ball. I've tried different grits on one of the hyroads, but decided to sell it later down the road.

Just depends on your style and the lane condition the ball is best suited for....I have done it many times...

Sometimes I have used the same ball with 3 drillings...

I also use the same ball with different drillings and different surfaces...

I currently use two Sigma Stings, same drilling but different surfaces.

One with 1000 abralon with light polish and one with 2000 abralon with heavy polish(pretty much box finish).

The 1000 abralon with light polish doesn't have near as much down lane movement and is a more arching ball motion where the 2000 + polish has a lot of snap when it finds friction. Same ball, same drilling and two different surfaces can give you two very different reactions. I've considered adding third one with a straight 1000 abralon.

I would have my driller recommend a layout for the specific ball.

I'd prob go IQ Tour Pearl, and go with one at 2000 with something like a 3 1/2" pin and the other at something like 3000 + a high gloss polish and a 4 1/2 pin.   :-\

Where does it fall(grit wise) with the Step 1, Step 2 and Step 3 products? Those all work pretty well for me.

Milo...Reacta Skuff will leave the ball dull...I would say between a 3000 pad and a 4000 pad...But it leaves the ball extremely tacky...

The ball maintains good length...But the back end is greatly improved...

It works GREAT on OLDER balls that have lost some of their hooking power...

On OLDER balls I would use it dull...no polish...

But on newer balls...We have used it with the Reacta Skuff and then Polish...

On oil...Storm 1500...On med.  Storm 2500...

btw...put it on by HAND...No Spinner..

THanks for the input.

I was told by another bowler that one guy in his league just uses one layout for all his stuff. I guess it works for him.....

I'm glad that works for him, but it would be an extraordinarily poor decision for me though.

I wonder if he gets most of his spec close or the same and if uses the same layout on sym and assym core balls....I couldn't do it either...

Sir...I knew of  a number of older bowlers that do that...

They may use a 4 1/2 by 5 drilling on all their balls...

But they adjust the covers...Some dull, some polished...etc etc...

It's not that common anymore...

I think it makes more sense to adjust the drill patterns as well as the covers...

Some guys like to see the same general motion. There is guy around here who drills EVERYTHING pin over ring. I mean 6 balls, all pin over ring, whatever works I guess.

I usually punch two of the same ball, One pin up and one pin down and I alter the surface as a matter of fact I rarely leave the shop with a ball that is OOB.

Imo two of the same ball prepped differently is easier to adjust with than two different balls.
