Ball Shipping via UPS (Simple Rate) ?????
« on: January 17, 2020, 08:05:55 PM »
Anyone know the story with UPS and this new Simple Rate shipping??
I haven't shipped a ball or balls in years!!

I'm shipping 2 balls in a double box: 9" x 9" x 19", weighing 30 lbs. (2 x 14 lb. balls),
going from New Jersey to Oregon, cross country.

Normally such a size, weighing 30 lbs, cross country is now $80 roughly with insurance. It's gotten very expensive.

But I see now there's an alternative in UPS called Simple Rate shipping. It seems similar to the post office's flat rate. You put in the volume of the box (9x9x19 = 1450 cubic inches, "extra large category"). You're limited to 50 pounds. Fine.
I entered the departure and delivery zipcodes and I get a cost of $30.

That means UPS loses $50 in fees. I don't get that. Could this all be true?

Has anyone shipped balls using this UPS method? Seems too good to be true.

I'll probably double check this with UPS before I bring this package to the UPS office and learn I did something wrong or made a bad assumption.

Thanks.

I have not tried this company because I have a account with UPS and I get a discounted rate, but it does seem legit.

I've shipped through this person before. Usual options weren't the best since I needed to ship to Puerto Rico. He handled things pretty well and the ball got there in a timely fashion. As long as its in a 9x9x9, should be no issues. His name is Thomas Biniek Jr I believe on Facebook.

I recently shipped a ball using the "shipmybowlingball" website.  Worked perfectly.  They use USPS Priority 2-day shipping.  Ordered a label on a Tuesday night, got the label Wednesday afternoon, dropped the ball off to the post office Wednesday afternoon, ball was delivered to the recipient that Saturday.  As long as you ship the ball in a 9x9x9 box it is good to go.
