Sets - Largest pins over average?

After seeing a fellow bowler have the set of his life last night it got me think...what's the most scratch pins over average folks have seen for a 3 game set?

The invidual I saw is a 198 average bowler that hit an 856 scratch...+262 for 3 or an average of 87.3 pins over average per game!!!


What have you all seen?

well i avg 171 in league and i shot 775. so 513-775= 262 as-well.

how ever my real average is closer to 210.

Okay, I can't resist.  If you average 171 in league, how is it that your "real" average is closer to 210?

I bowled a few weeks with for a friend in another association last year and since I didnt have a book avg I had to set one the first night. Long story short, I had problems with the approach all night long, shot just over 520 and set my avg at 174.

The next week, I had to use my 174 avg I set and proceeded to shot 267-289-268 for 824.. that would be +302 hahaha

in 2000, i started bowling in a scratch league and the first two weeks were less than spectacular, and i was @ something like a 180 avg..  then proceeded to shoot 751 lol....  

But i've had a few times in league where i'd be around 200, or w/e and shoot 150+ over my avg.

There was a kid in the center I work at, in the jr/adult league. He averaged like 130, with no thumb and a ton of revs. One day, something clicked and he pulled a 710 series out of nowhere. The leagues handicap was based off of 200 average, and I remember he had something like a 920 handicap series... I wish i would have saved the recap sheet, I doubt ill ever see something like that again.
