For the first time in 30 years of bowling....
« on: March 11, 2008, 03:52:30 PM »
The ball felt good in my hand !?! Imagine all that time I've been bowling with a thumb hole too loose. I still can even put even more tape in the ball if I want to. For the most part I gave away the first game and a half in league tonight. I had to have a very relaxed hand and arm to get out of the ball. Near the end of the night I almost dropped the ball on one shot. Went 177, 247 (With the last 8) then 278 with a stone 7 in the 4th...

lately there have been posts about the thumb pitches forward vs. reverse. My question what are the pitches you use in the ball(s) you were throwing tonight

Right now I have 1/2 reverse. I used to have 3/8 forward. But really that is not why the ball never felt good in my hand. The problem is how I throw the ball. It is clearly shown here in this clip. I had to have a loose thumb to even get out of the ball because I release the ball past my front foot. You can look at it here.
Turn the volume up on your speakers to hear the coach.

As you can see if I have a correct fit on my thumb hole I will hang. So I keep making the thumb hole more and more snug until I hang. Then I relax more and more so I don't hang. I'm also releasing the ball earlier and earlier at the same time. Baby steps ! Seems to be working.

Thanks for the video...glad to see that you are working on your game and striving for a better game. Great slow mo comparisons with Ozio. Keep working at it...it will come around.

Just happened to come across your post while surfing the forum. You say you were 3/8 forward and now you are 1/2 reverse. This makes me curious - what is your span? This makes me wonder if you aren't squeezing the ball. If you can't clear the thumb hole with out it being larger than you normally call for, you might be knuckling the ball. It just sounds like something might be wrong with your grip.
