Bowling without my wrist brace..........
« on: November 12, 2012, 03:06:07 PM »
I’ve used a wrist brace for years but lately I’ve been bowling a few games without it. Last night I noticed my speed increased a full 1 mph faster even with the same swing. I also notice something that I never saw before using the brace. When my ball hits the pins, the pins are flying all over the place. Why is that? Could it be I’m actually getting more of the ball and increasing my rev rate? Don’t get me wrong, I’m still transitioning but I like what I’m seeing. Ball arc still looked the same and so did the tilt but the pins are acting differently.

You might be hooking it less without the brace. A straight ball will register a higher speed than a hooking ball if ball speed is measured at the back of the lanes.

Higher ball speed can create more pin action...it can also create the wrong kind of pin action...be more concerned with pin carry than action

Since I have stopped using my brace, I have noticed a definite increase in balls speed and a significant drop in revs. I am debating going back to the Robby's rev although I hate having the contraption on my arm.

In my own experiences, although I have a weak wrist, the brace at one house gives me too many revolutions for good carry with the stronger balls, these newer covers on many just need guidance for best results. I now use a simple wrist only support at this house and am having fun again. Something to think about. good luck.

Gadgetman, do you have any problems going back and forth?

I've worked hard to use just a gravity swing, I am older so shoulder problems eliminate high backswing, hence slower speeds which in turn cause more backend problems when lanes transition. Thing is though, if you can keep your speed consistent, adjustments are a lot easier to spot and correct and when lanes are clean and you're lined up, you can string with the best.

Todays stronger covers begs for speed but you do what you can do, comfort zone for you is what counts for accuracy and enjoyment.
