what is so great about Lane#1
« on: November 26, 2006, 09:36:16 AM »
I'm not here to totally bash the company but I have thrown a couple of thier older balls and I thought were both way oversensitive and hooked way too much. I couldn't even imagine what the new balls are like. But 5 years ago, they were also known for hitting so hard. I don't see how they are so great where you have to pay such high money for them when you could get the same results from other manufactuers at a cheaper rate. I hope thier balls are made with higher quality cause I has one the coverstock cracked from the pin sideways across the ball. The company also wouldn't replace it, so I'd never buy any of thier stuff again. That's actully the only ball I've ever owned from any company that cracked like this.

Today on eBay I saw aUSED Cherry Bomb Pearl. going for almost 200 dollars. Please! Someone explain what is so special about Lane#1? Anyone?

Good Lord, hasn't this topic been beat to death enough yet?  I know you've been on the board long enough to know all the answers/responses.  Please, don't anyone else bother to dignify this post with another response.

Sounds like a FAIR question!

I have an original CARBIDE BUZZSAW .. it has quite a few games on it .. bought it back in 2000. No CRACKS in the ball .. I remember complaining when I first used it that the ball seem to have a lot of wear and tare after only a few games .. BUT no CRACKS!

I've owned a number of LANE 1 balls since then .. in fact I have the CARBIDE PLUS and the HRG .. I think the balls are great and I know of NONE that cracked.

YES .. I do believe the ball are TOO EXPENSIVE and if I didn't have the cash to lay-out there are EXCELLENT ALTERNATIVES that will do the job!

I have two currently and have had numerous others as well.  I'm definitely not sold on the hype.  Are they great balls?  Sure.  But, so is my new Epic Battle.  I shot 825 a few weeks ago with my blueberry saw.  It was given to me for free.  I also have a SCB, which I paid 140 drilled.  Were both of these worth it?  Yes.  But I would NEVER pay 250 plus for a bowling ball.  NEVER!  There are wayyyyyyyyy to many quality balls in the midpriced category.

I think Lane 1 needs to introduce a midpriced category.  Honestly, they would rule the market.  Remake some older stuff, recycle stuff like Brunswick.

What's so good about Storm, Columbia, Brunswick, Ebonite, Visionary, Lanemasters, etc?

If your asking price? most companies will set the price up to what demand dictates, what they think they can get.  Simple as that. Product influence be it through marketing, advertising, following, representives, word of mouth, etc.... they obviously can get it.

Is it worth the price or is the technology that your buying worth it? The bowlers that have confidence in the product and match up well are the ones that can tell you. Obviously, Lane #1 has been fairly successful at generating excitment in their products and passing it to their end user.... the bowler, which is a good thing.

Oh boy, another one emerges from the cracks....

Man, that was a helpful statement. Even Lane#1 detractors acknowledge they have balls for a range of conditions. I can tell right from this statement that you haven't had enough experience with their product to offer an educated opinion.

A book can be written on this, but the bottom line is that the diamond provides for a unique reaction. For some bowlers, that difference is a plus that can't be purchased elsewhere.

Cracks happen, regardless of company. The issue is customer service when stuff like this happens, which brings me to your next point:

The company also wouldn't replace it, so I'd never buy any of their stuff again.

I don't know the specifics of your situation, but Lane#1 customer service is exceptional. Lane#1 replaced my first SCB after 14 months when it developed a crack off the pin. No muss, no fuss. There have been many, many testimonials on this site from others and their positive experiences with Lane#1 resolving problems.

Brian, you've been around this site long enough to have read the enless debates on Lane#1, and the arguments outlining why the product is 'special'. If you didn't get it then, you're not going to get it now.

Time to move on....

I say let people spend the money how they want to spend it.  I personally don't feel the need to pay 80-100 more bucks for 10 year old core technology and borrowed covers, but that's me and that's why I choose not to throw them.  If people have money to burn, let em.......as long as they're also losing it to you.  Am I right?

Its the same thing with every sport, people think they can buy a better game.  perfect example is golf.  18 holes in a round, roughly 15 holes call for a driver but people spend $400+ on the latest and greatest.  It is all a matter of preference.

With some gentlemen on this site having a 6 or 8 or even more ball arsenal, it is hard for me to imagine that a lane 1 ball could logically give you this greater look or greater pin carry.  I have used several lane one balls and was not as impressed.  It was easier to get my $56 spirit to the hole than the cherry bomb or the uranium i owned.

Again, its a matter of preference and matching the ball to your game.

Greatness

Obliviously we can't stand here and debate what the situation was as to why they wouldn't replace it.  I for one have had a ball replaced no questions asked, they asked me to send them the ball soon as they got it they sent me a replacement.  They even offered me any ball and any SPECs I wanted as a replacement, remarkable customer service.

It's remarkable how every week this topic comes up...  Why is Lane#1 so expensive?

Who cares, you like them or you don't...
