I bought a video camera for this purpose, and AFTER I bought the camera, I found the PC software extremely limited.

I just picked up a Sony DSC-T1 Digital camera - with a bigger memory card it will capture a lot of video, as well as take fantastic pics. I'll probably be selling my video camera and just work with the digital. check it out!

A lot depends on what you want to do with it.  Bowling Software like Bowler's Map and Dartfish can be expensive.  PC plus requirements, i.e.  firewire and digital.  Bowler's Map has the least requirements last I looked at it.  As for cameras if you just want to tape yourself and watch with maybe a slow motion effect.  Sony and JVC both have very good and affordable units.  We use both in our coaching program.  The Sony is just a little better in low light.
