Thumb Tape
« on: August 10, 2008, 05:53:37 AM »
What is your way of handling a thumb hole that is a tad too big? What type of material(tape?)do you use? What's up with the tape that goes around the thumb itself? Is it designed to combat this problem? Do you put it on front and back? Thanks in advance. We bowlers have to stick together.

hello sleeze,
LOL... if your not as lazy as sawbones(only kidding) here is some info.. bowling tape comes in all different sizes, colors and tectures.. some slick, some a little on the ruff side, depending on what you would like to feel on your thumb..colors range from BLK,BLUE,GRN,ORANGE,YELLOW,RED etcc.. it also comes in 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1 inch sizes which you can cut to what ever you need.. now you can buy different brands too from ebonite, bowlers tape just to name a couple brands.. I have noticed that some of the different brands tend to stick alittle  more or less then the other(your chose which one you would like)... now for the tape that goes on your thumb itself it is supposed to be used to protect the skin from irratation or if you have a cut etccc.(I use new skin for that).. I do though have a couple buddies that use it just like they would tape(personal opinion what ever works best for you).. where to stick it the tape that is...lol... thats a personal opinion once again.. if you like it in the back put it there, if you like it on the side put it there and so on.. they do recommend though you shouldn't(doesn't mean you can't) put it in the front cause it makes your span longer by adding tape there.. hope this helps alittle any other question, shoot...   slashrr69

its all about feel.

everyone is different.

some like rough tape. some on the front some back and some like just slick black tape.

and they come in all different sizes. 1/2" 3/4" 1".

just as an example I use: 3/4" black tape on the back and wrap my entire thumb in 2" green turbo tape. soooo you are only limited by what you try. I couldnt get a consistent release and my thumb would swell rapidly and was tired of it getting ripped up. wrapped it in the green tape and realized I needed more forward pitch (due to the slickness of the tape) thanks to the help on this forum and now im happy with my release.

just experiment till your happy. theres always a way. and no reason to have trouble with all the products that are available today.
