whats the better two ball aresenal???
« on: December 04, 2011, 11:16:14 AM »
lets use the rotogrip stuff as the example..... would you rather have.....

1) a  shooting star one pin up and one pin down '

or

2) a shooting star and a rising star both pin up same layout. The balls have the same core but one is 2000ab solid OOB
and the other is 1500 hybrid OOB

Keep in mind that the Shooting Star is NOT plain P2000 grit. It is P360 grit followed by P2000 grit.
"Plain" P2000 grit is P500, followed by P1000, followed by P2000 grit.

This is similar to the finish on the VG Nano, The Theory and the original Virtual Gravity. They did not have  a plain P4000 grit finish (500 grit + 1000 grit + 2000 grit + 4000 grit). They had P500 grit followed by P4000 grit as their stock finish. This gave them some length provided by the top "layer" of P4000 grit but gave them a much more sudden change of direction by having the P500 grit finish "underneath".

If it were me, I would take the Shooting Star and a Rising Star.  I figure if the Shooting Star starts to roll too early, the hybrid cover on the Rising Star will give it a little more length plus the backend.

Interesting question! and great thread. I am just the opposite. I would go for the Shooting Star, one pin up and one pin down. I love the cores in both, so with the dissimilar drillings, I'd be able to move on the lanes accordingly to adjust my shot as lanes transition......but still get the dependable look that I want.

I have found that all hybrids are not the same. Some have more pearl than solid and vice versa, so I might get a totally unexpected reaction when going to the hybrid version of say, the rising star. If I were to use a hybrid...it would have to have the same drilling as the original shooting star I started with.
