Title: Best flood ball? You know, when it is
Post by: jd1319 on October 20, 2003, 07:48:32 AM
so wet that if you sat the ball on the lane, it would sink.  Currenty, I'm using an Apex Addiction, but I want something stronger for floods only.  As strong as possible, MFR not important.

super carbide bomb is the best but it is expensive, so for something a little more reasonable go with the midnight scorcher from visionary, something more mainstream, the throttle, super freak, or the phenom, and for the cheapest ball with still great performance, the swamp monster. it contains my favorite core of all time, the command zone arc core, which is also the best ball produced, but this ball offers a great core with an extremely strong coverstock.

If you want early roll and continuous reaction on the backend get a Track Super Freak.

They run a 'challenge' summer league here where the conditions change every week but they are usually on the heavy oil side.  One night almost everyone was throwing a straight ball and not by choice.

Other than that, I am bowling in a winter sport league where I have had to use my Granite Gargoyle and I normally can never use that ball on the THS.

If I were looking for the ball you describe,I would consider the new Fear Factor.I love the weight block and the new cover looks like the ticket for heavy oil!

I think you need a Red Pearl Hammer. =)

Undoubtedly the best bowler to ever come out of Sequoia Lanes. Maybe that's why they tore it down.

ON a true flood nothing will work.  YOu are stuck just trying to
keep the ball in play.  MY votes are as follows:

Midnight Schorcher

Charcol or purple ice excecutioner Sanded to 320 the early rolling core will work wonders

Super carbide Bomb

Maybe a Burgandy Gryphon Haven't seen one thrown to judge it's reaction yet.

Hook is relative.  Unless it is flooded down 55 feet with carrydown to the deck, the ball will "hook", just not as much as you are used to.  The key is getting a ball that will roll and finish.  Period.  That doesn't mean super early rolling -- the ball will waste energy trying to hook.  On what we would call a real flood, oil to 50 feet or so, no bounce and flattish or a light crown, use something like the Super Carbide Bomb, the Throttle or maybe a Fear Factor or WOW, play for forward roll and a relatively straight angle.  Do not come off the side.

Better Rags?

Thanks for the replies, I know it's a tough situation, but I'm hoping for a ball that will change the angle of entry away from the good ol' straight ball on those unfortunate nights.  Maybe I exaggerated the condition, but you get the point.  I'm hoping for just some kind of reaction to help me carry.  It's the only condition I really struggle on and I'm looking for an ace in the hole when everybody else is up a creek without a paddle.  While I can get anything to hook even on the worst conditions by uping the revs and dropping the ball speed, it is simply not consistent enough since I shoot it very rarely.  I simply don't have a place that allows me to practice it, so I'm hoping for the extra oomph!

It looks like I might be trying a Super Carbide soon since everybody seems to rate it pretty high for the oily nights.

Phillip, yes.  But I have bowled on 58 feet of dripping oil: to (and eventually thru) the pin deck.  This is what I always assume people mean when they mention "Really heavy oil."

What insane novacaine disdaining Swiss dentist came up with that pattern?
