Cell/Special Agent basically same ball?
« on: May 01, 2008, 02:56:54 PM »
Hey,

I have both the Special and the Cell.  They seem very similar, so I was just wanting everybody else's input.  If they are basically the same I'll get rid of one for a medium oil ball. Both balls are in box condition with the pin below and under the ring finger.  Any input is appreciated.  Thanks,

Zach

NOT the same ball, near as I can tell.

RG on the SA is much lower.
SA has no mass bias.
Coverstock is not the same, as far as I can tell.

Remember that house blended oil patterns hide the difference between balls very well. Try using both on sport patterns or PBA patterns or try using them in different houses, on different oil patterns and different lane surfaces. This should show the difference.

Unless your release already does such "magic", the Cell seems to allow both target and release forgiveness much more so than other balls, PLUS it is designed with a different coverstock that absorbs oil at much slower rate than average.

FYI I believe that, although Storm owns Roto-Grip, Roto-Grip sources their resin from a different supplier than Storm uses. At least that used to be true.

From what I have seen, Cell looks like more ball than the Special Agent.  I have the Special, it is a medium ball, maybe a little more than medium.  It was kinda pukey with the box surface.  Pretty nice with some Secret Sauce.

Not the same ball. Like said before the THS is hiding the difference. You are either watching your SA bounce off the wall or the Cell holding. I'm betting on the Cell holding since in most parts of the country you can not usually throw the Cell on a THS. The Cell also absorbs oil much slower. The number 40% less is sticking in my head but I may be wrong.

The cover holds up great on the Cell. My only complaint about the cover is that it looks like it is 3 years old after you throw it for a night until you clean it. Then it looks fine.
