I heard aleive works better than ibuprofen (motrin and advil).

But for the best results I suggest a spliff and a couple of shots of bourbon.

Have a good fitter/driller analyze your hand and refit you so the pain will go away.  You probably need either a shorter span or more reverse pitch on your ring finger hole.  --  JohnP

Sometimes pain in the finger joints just comes with age.  After one of my knuckles started hurting a good bit I started taking a supplement called Joint Soother (available from Vitamin World).  It's just glucosomine, condroiton, and MSM, but it really helped alleviate the pain.

I am unsure if it is tendonitis, inflammation, or early arthritis. that's the issue

If you are going to use Aleve.
Try using the new Liqui-Gels..
They work much faster and they are easier on the stomach. Probably due to the more rapid they absorb into your system. Being an arthritis sufferer, Aleve has been the best for me. Ibuprofen didnt work as well but everyone's body will react differently. Hope this helps

All three of those are inflammation based, the easiest way to get cherries into your diet is Nature blessed cherry concentrate. You can pick it up at just about any grocery store. A bottle will last you a month and you just mix an ounce into your morning coffee or something and it tastes good and it really helps. As far as individual times you have to pain I use excedrine extra strength. Its some pretty serious stuff, asprin tylenol and caffeine all in one. But it works for everything from a migraine to knee pain for me.

I also say check your span. I had severe pain in my middle finger, closest knuckle to fingertip 2 seasons ago. Talked to my proshop guy about it and we decided to relax everything. Went from 4 7/8 x 5 to 4 3/4 x 4 7/8 and it helped right away. Bowled the past season 2 nights a week and never had the pain come back.

Hydrocodone

Oxycodone

Tramadol - If you can find the cop that pulled over Mutilated1, she'll probably sell you some

This is a general post for all of us that experience pain and bowl. Put a bottle of stop pain in your bag. Comes in spray on or roll on and it is like heat ,but its milder in odor, its also very effective. I use it on my knees, wrist, back, whatever,it really works

I do have a prescription for Tramadol and I do take one before bowling or golf. But I also take a Naproxen Sodium (Aleve). It is the generic stuff and it works just the same as the national brand. It is a few bucks cheaper. I tolerate all the NSAIDs well. Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen, and Naproxen sodium are all anti-inflammatorys. Some people can handle some better than others. Ibuprofen seems to be well tolerated by most people I have talked to. Naproxen (Aleve) may be tougher for some. It is stronger and can cause stomach upset. But as with any of these take it with a little food.

+1, Aleve liqui-gels are always in my bag.  I have found them to be the most effective, and you only have to take one.

That being said, nothing is a substitute for a cannon and (here's where i'll differ) a captain and coke.   To each their own........

Aleve is the best...just take it about 30 min before you bowl and you will be good for the night...

If you have any chronic conditions, be careful what you take for pain.  NSAIDS
cause problems if you have diabetes or significant arthritis.  They interfere
with kidney function.  Tylenol is usually recommended for these people.

Whoever said Acetaminophen is an anti-inflammatory is wrong, its a pain reliever and will do nothing for inflammation.  Ibuprofen and Naproxen are NSAID's.  Span/pitch/hole size is off, so get that checked.

I have a new span people, but the new span alone is not going to fix my hand, which is why I'm seeing what meds work best until I go to a doctor.

If you're not doing it already, learn how to stretch the muscles/tendons your arm and hand properly. Staying flexible will prevent most 'pain' problems in the long run. Make it part of your daily routine, even when you're not bowling. Aleve/Advil are fine to help you get through very short term problems, but you don't want to depend on medication in the long run.

It's amazing to read that kids like CGsSuK need to use meds at such a young age. It makes you wonder how they'll be able to function once they become adults.

I stretch my hand properly. i also pitched for many years of my life. i'm only 22 and its not enough pain to have me stop bowling, but its agitating because its affecting my game

What is the pitch (forward/reverse) on that finger, including any forward added by a grip, and how far in degrees will the first joint bend without being forced?  --  JohnP

holes are drilled quarter reverse, lifts make it quarter forward, its pretty much even and still gives me feel for power lifts
