Best/Favorite Ball cleaner
« on: February 03, 2011, 12:59:34 PM »
Im suffering from bowling in a house that apparently cant clean anything... My whole ball is getting covered in what is either belt marks or gunk from the backstop and I cannot get it off the ball for the life of me.

Things I have tried
Ebonite powerhouse
Alcohol
Acetone
Storm Reacta-shine? I think is what it is.

Okay. I will toss in my 2 cents worth.

I used to use a 50/50 mixture of Simple Green and water for years. I also had ball reps for 2 different companies express how well they thought it worked for them. They will remain anonymous here.

The key is to give it time to work. If you want to spray it on and immediately wipe it off your results may be less than desired. However, if you will show a little patience, and give it 30 seconds to break down oil and dirt left on the cover you will likely be impressed. I could get any ball as tacky as any other cleaner for a small fraction of the price. For daily cleaning the product is amazing, in my opinion. It is strong enough to break down motor oil off your driveway, so why would it not be strong enough to clean a little dirt and oil from your bowling ball?

There are great products on the market that may work faster, and maybe better, but there needs to be a cost comparison to decide whether they are that much better. Just my .02...

Clay, you mentioned that you "used to use" the 50/50 Simple Green and Water mix. What do you use now in place of that mix?

On the side here, I too have used that mix as well as 50-50 & 66-33 Simple Green & 91%  Rubbing Alcohol mix, 33-33-33 water-alcohol-Simple Green mix and etc. with no complaints. I always seem to go back to ball cleaners though such as Valentino's Remedy RX, Black Magic Rejuvinator, Ole Roys Front 9, and etc. thinking they are better since they were designed specifically for bowling balls, but in reality, they may be no better than different Simple Green mixes, I don't know.

Anyhow just wondering what you use now in place of the Simple Green-Water mix you used to use.

1/2 Simple Green, 1/4 Water, 1/4 Iso/alcohol for the majority of the time with a towel.  Occasionally I retouch the surface using same solution but with an ab pad. Clean n Dull on some occasions.
