Title: Bleeding the oil out of a ball

So my girlfriend has a old vortex. And she wants me to get the oil out of the ball. And shes worried that im going to break her ball.

Here is what i do to get the oil out of balls, or here is my theory.

1) Turn on heater.
2) Put ball infront of heater.
3) Bleed all the oil out of the ball, rotating the ball so all sides of the ball have had heat (the same 6 sides that you resurface)
4) once the surface is covered in oil, put the ball in a shower under the hottest water it can pump out, and slowly rturn the water to room temperature.

Will this work, or will it 'break the ball' as she says. should i put something in the finger and thumb holes so they dont get as wet?? Etc etc, just some issues she has raised. Gimme your thoughts.

landry tub and hot water works better

just put in hot water(just hot enough so your hand can stand it) and a degreaser in water also. every 5 minutes take the ball out and rub it. do for a 1/2 hour. easier if you do 3 at same times(use less water that way).

Yes, it is definately easiest to just put the ball in some hot water with degreasing soap, anything that you wash dishes with should be fine. Submerge ball for about 10-15 minutes, pull out and wipe down with a clean towel and another degreasing agent such as 409. Continue until ball no longer has a slimy film to it when you pull it out of the hot water. Also, change the water everytime you pull out and put back in. You dont wanna put the ball back into water that has been used already.

I agree that warm water soaking works better than heating. Remember to let the whole ball cool down to room temperature before use. I have also found it prudent to tape the fingerholes before soaking. The inserts sometimes become unglued by the warm water.

If you have a dishwasher with a gentle cycle you can use that too.  Jsut don't use the heat dryer.  Use rubber plugs to cover the holes instead of tape.

Everyone is for the hot water method, which I admit is my favorite as well.  However, since nobody else has brought it up, I will.  The heater thing is generally not a good idea.  Too much heat is your enemy here, as I have seen several balls put in ovens, by wood stoves, and in front of heaters break.  This doesn't seem to be as big a problem with the hot water.  Also, I wouldn't worry about putting anything in the holes, just clean them real good with 409 or something like that before bowling so there is no oily residue in them.
