Ball choice for carry down & low friction lanes?
« on: November 12, 2021, 11:22:08 PM »
I'm going to be bowling in a tournament that I'm expecting to see some carry down.  The lanes are low friction, so I will have to work with whatever friction my team can produce.

What layout and ball type would you go with for combating those conditions?

My stats:  15 mph and 325-350 revs

I have had the best success with a strong pearl-Mastermind Scholar- with the pin over my middle finger on those conditions. The ball corners very well, BUT I have a 4000 grit finish which keeps it from skidding through the break point. I also use this ball exclusively on wood with a Visionary Blue/Green as my ball down.

These older balls (but you should be able to find something similar) have given me a lot of success on that type of shot. As you can tell, I do use these 2 specific balls much for house shots.

Our specs are very similar.

Honestly.....just something in the mid/high performance with some surface.  However with you at only 15 mph, I would not go with too much surface because you dont want the ball reading too fast.  I am thinking a solid or hybrid coverstock at 2000 with a layout designed for backend motion, 55 by 4.5 by 30 is my thinking. If you had something like a Trend 2 with the shine knocked off would be great for the condition you are speaking of.
