Bowlero League Policy/Issues?
« on: November 12, 2021, 08:06:13 PM »
I was curious if anyone else has had a similar experience? I bowl at what used to be Park lanes in Charlotte NC. The center was recently purchased by Bowlero. Who cannot do basic math and do not care about league bowlers.  This is a 22 team 5 man league. This league has been here for well over 25-30 years. We pay around $15 a week per bowler in lineage. So roughly $1650 a week or $54,450 per year. We usually have a breakdown pair but last night they put a rowdy group of 10 bowlers right next to us. The league president inquired why and was basically told that they will not turn away open bowlers for a league situation. They bowled 2 games before other lanes came open and were moved. So basically $50 in open play vs $1650 of guaranteed income? The counter person said nothing about lane courtesy to the open bowlers and we were jumped several times. Our league secretary and president said we may not come back next year. This is sad...

I’m not saying it’s right. I think it stinks. But I do know one center in my area charges leagues for a breakdown pair because that’s potential revenue they are turning away. They are up front and tell the leagues. The league I bowled in was charged for 10 bowlers lineage every week.

Did any of the 10 people on the pair go have a quick conversation with the open bowlers about bowling etiquette?  Usually works every time if not done in a confrontational way.

That never works out well around here.  Usually ends in the open bowlers telling off the league bowlers with some colorful language regardless of how polite the league bowlers are.

Bowlero is first and foremost a business.  They don't care about league bowlers.  They view them as obstacles to filling the center with open bowlers who represent more profit to them.  Bowlero claims they make more money on shoe rentals and arcade business than they do open bowling.  League bowlers rarely rent shoes or play in the arcade.

Out center was recently acquired by Bowlero and we are struggling with similar issues.

While it might not be great, Unless the league has in their contract with the lanes. That those lanes are reserved for the leagues use.

The house can do whatever they want with those lanes, If they want to have open bowling it's in their right.

Next year the league should work that into the contract, if they can't. Then leave.

To me it is not so much the breakdown pair being used as it is putting open bowlers next to a competitive league. There should be some respect for leagues.. BTW our lane did breakdown and we were moved the 3rd game. Cost us 3rd game and series...

It sucks to move to an unknown condition, but at least both you and your opponent bowled on the same condition.
