steps to the foul line? how many?
« on: March 14, 2004, 11:35:52 PM »
I personally take only 3 steps, but it suits me fine. I was wondering how many steps you guys take and how well your timing is on a scale of 1/100

so mine is:
3 step
87/100 (just got a new ball, and is a little sticky in the thumb)

got it? get it? good.

four steps for me too...my timing varies, but I would say in the 90's somewhere.

5 steps for me...

would be about 95 out of a 100 for me....meaning slightly fast or slow on 5 out of a 100 normal shots...

I take 4 steps and I would say my timing is between 90-95%. Occasionally I get a little too fast to the line which causes me to pull through the shot...

My normal delivery is 5 steps. I can also use a 4 step when playing deeper or need to slow my ball speed. How consistent? Pretty low for the last year or so, but coming back around after spending one hour with a coach and having him point out two errors in my approach. In the past month on my Classic league I have rolled two 700's and a 690 after not shooting a single 700 all season. Right now I think I am on with %90 of my approaches and I can base that on actually seeing where the ball is going on 9 out of 10 shots. Something I could not say a couple months ago.

I used to use 4 steps, but I recently went to 5 after my coach suggested it to increase ball speed. It worked for the speed, and my timing seems very good too. Being new to the 5 step approach, I would probably only rate myself at about 85% at the moment.

I've found I have better timing when I use a 4 step approach.  With a 4-step, I am around 90 for my timing.

For me, it depends on what I'm shooting on.  If the lanes are drier, I'll take a fast 4 step.  If they're more on the slick side, I can take a 5,6, or 7 step approach to slow myself down.  Seven out of 10 times though, I'll take a 5 step stroll to the line.

6 steps

I have no idea how to judge my timing, but I would guess in the 80's.
