Switch Grip breaking?
« on: January 07, 2008, 02:00:18 PM »
Well today I was practicing heard a click noise then the ball went down the lane when the inner thumb remained on my hand. Broke one of the tabs off and the other cracked.

So, my question is how many of you that use this have had this problem. Is this the norm, or should I consider it a freak thing and not worry?

Not the norm.  I've been using 'em 2 years and haven't had this problem.

Your lucky, if they break while your hand is in the ball the inner can slide out a little and lock your hand in the ball. Good way to seriously injure yourself.

And yes, I have seen several break, from multiple shops.

I have broken a number of them.  Some drilled by me, my faulty drilling.  Some drilled by me perfectly.  Some drilled by others.  A couple that were not "drilled" at all, as I installed a thumb mold into it and did not drill the slug, still broke it.

I think I use my thumb holes too tight.  Love the concept, but they break too easy for me.

I have recently, last week, started using the switch grip. I was told they have been updated with thicker tabs, apparently Turbo was aware of this problem. I think they are great....

I have used them for almost 2 years and only broke one tab.  Which happened to be the first one I drilled.  I drilled through the bottom of the inner sleeve making the tabs weaker.  But it took about 4 months of continuous use to break it.  With the new thicker tabs the longevity should be better.

Sounds good. I got two more inners made yesterday. Besides, if another one fails, I'll just get a mold of one and start using them instead.

Switch grips are good as long as they are level with the ball.
