how many if any pro-shop operators here started off by....

I was wondering how many if any pro-shop operators here started off by running a home based pro-shop? You know a sort of a pro-shop in the garage. Before they opened a shop at the lanes or some place else.

I was reading a post telling why you basically can't do it or it would be very difficult.
Things like
"that manufacturers will typically pressure distributors (who sell to the  retail stores) behind the scenes to not support garage operations"

"the manufacturer representatives, sales staff, or pro staff players will  not be able to administer things promotions as demo days, seminars,  coaching clinics, and other such marketing promotions"

You can read it all here:

My ball driller went from in a center to drilling out of his basement. When he made the move he lost most support from distributors. So now he just has his customers buy online and he drills them. Its a great deal for him. I pay $55 for drilling plus grips and slug. He has no overhead pretty good deal for both of us.

They call me the thread killer...

Well, that's how I got my start back in 1992(basement, not garage). I now operate out of a bowling center, and have for the last 13 years or so.

I started as an online store then started drilling for some local people. Then decided to have a full blown shop in garage since there were no empty pro shops available. I had no problems with dist. as I was selling plenty online. A new center opened in town and the person that had the pro shop in the other centers in town decided to go into that new center but then got asked to move out of the ones he currently had. That is when I got the chance to open one in my home house then a yr later st another house in town. Owner went bankrupt so now am back to garage but have way toooo much stuff so help me get rid of it.!!!!!!!
