Title: Bowling ball ID
Post by: dR3w on July 04, 2015, 10:48:51 AM
I ran into an older gentleman who used to bowl in the 70s and 80s he said he had an all black ball with a red stripe but he couldn't remember the name of it. Does anybody recall something similar?

I believe that's a Amflite Magic Circle  had a 1/8" red line around the ball as a roll tracer. (Like the ball with the 3 white tracer dots on it.)

(The line came in yellow or red, also a blue and orange line also I believe)

It was an AMF hard rubber ball introduced in the late 60's.  It might have been called magic line  I don't remember very many people using it, although a guy on my college team had one.  The idea apparently was that the red line would follow the track.  Of course no two tracks were the same, and I think only a few full rollers would have gotten the intended look.

These were AMF Magic Circles.   The Red/Orange line ball was for full rollers and it was to be drilled so the line matched the ball roll of the fuller roller.   There is supposed to a Blue 3/4 roll that is much more rare.  I've never seen a the blue 3/4 roll Magic Circle so it may not really exist.

Here is a link to the AMF Amflite Magic Circle:

One of my friends uses a Magic Circle as his spare ball (also on fried conditions). Yes, he has a full roller delivery.

Got 2 or 3 of these sitting at home...used to throw it as a fuller roller (70's), threw it as a semi-roller (00's) which was amusing.
