Bowling Center Change

What would you change about your bowling center?

We need new pin setters and a complete new set of lanes.  Front and back boards for starters

I wish I could get rid of Royal Pin here in INDianapolis!!! They just suck when it comes to customer service!!!!! it so horrible. They just dont care about people that pay good money to bowl. The whole staff at all their centers have attitudes and evening the managers do to.  The only reason they own alot of the bowling alleis in the city is cause of money and they buy center then close them forcing bowlers to go to their centers.  They are like the mafia of the bowling world in Indianapolis

We need scantily clad lane waitresses. They would make a FORTUNE on our men's league.

New management, and a staff more in to bowling. The center I work at has about 150 employees, 2....MAYBE 3 hold a 200 average. Pretty ridiculous.

80 degrees way to hot to bowl???   You must not be from Texas!  The old AMF center we were at one summer it was over 100 degrees in the bowlers area.  I kept a thermometer in the area just to see.  That was the norm during the summer every year for a long time.  Just a little note to think about.  A 24 lane center to replace the scoring with nice equipment(not top of the line by any means) is around $120,000 or 34286 games at $3.50 a line.  Now figure you need to deduct all the other expenses before you start paying on the scoring and that number jumps dramatically.  Eventually the bowlers will need to pay for the improvements.

Well, what have we been paying for all along?  Status quo?  Prices went up 2 seasons ago.  He hasn't made any improvements in our house.  Roof was still leaking the last hard rain we had.  The chunk taken out of my ball happened 2 weeks ago.  The beer selection sucks, unless you like the standard Bud, Bud lite, Miller, Miller lite, & skunky pee tasting Heinekens in the green bottle.  I'd drink more if there was better beer.  & at 3.50 a bottle, I'm sure he makes a good profit margin.  Times that by more beer drunk.  He only has 1 bar tender, no need for 2.  No waitresses.  One counter person for bowling/ball return probs/pins outa range.  Himself & he bowls in the league. So not many employees to pay.  We lost 4 teams this year.  Doing the math that's 20 guys x 31 weeks, times that by how much beer sales lost.  Maybe he doesn't see that poor conditions = less customers, therefore less lineage.  If he doesn't fix/replace things then he just might not have the people to raise prices to.  JMO.

Oh...do you have an hour?

Well, I bowl at a Brunswick Zone center. That should say it all right there.

First thing I would do is demolish the entire "cosmic bowling/birthday party bowlers area", trench out an area 6 inches deep and make a real pit area where you are forced to step up on the approach like a normal center. All the house balls in the back, go back to tables and chairs on the carpet.

Next I'd replace the newer Brunswick synthetics with wood lanes.I may just only have the last 30 feet wood just to make it interesting but I'm tired of every house going up or going to synthetics instead of wood.

The biggest thing to change is the scoring monitors and system. I straight up sucks. Before was a Brunswick 2000 system which was terrific and simplistic. I'd get rid of the garbage Windows based system, actually have pit monitors like the old days and would replace every CRT monitor with 42" LCD tv's. Vizio, Sharp or Samsung.

This is just 3 expensive measures I would do. I could go on forever.

People need to take care of their business.  We have been making a lot of changes and improvements to our center but things keep coming up that need attention also.  Air conditioning issues, the parking lot, pinsetter problems, lanemachine and electrical.  It's a never ending cycle but it has to be taken care of or you get what you are describing.  It cost a lot of money and some people will not put it back into their place of business.  it's a shame.
