Bowling Center OPENINGS
« on: November 13, 2018, 02:44:07 PM »

Rather unusual for this to be happening with the spate of closures going on, but here we are!

Apparently in the Sacramento/NorCal area, there is going to be a new bowling center opening. Based on its location, I seriously doubt there will be any leagues there, as it will be in a shopping mall, along with movie theaters. It's going to be run by Round 1 along with Cinemark. My guess is that it is going to be the competitor to Bowlmor and trying to press for the entertainment value rather than leagues.

Anyone heard of Round 1? If so, how are they? I only know that they are going into the spot where an anchor store was in this mall (Sears) and that area is big; bi-level.

BL.

We have one here in Arlington,TX and while i have walked thru and it looks pretty cool, I doubt they have leagues. Its pretty cool because while there is a huge, i mean huge gameroom in the front of the building, all along the back part is the bowling lanes, probably like 24 or so. I think they only do the cosmic/glow bowling and have parties, etc.

We had 2 similar bowling centers in Southern California when I lived there . They were
operated by a different company and they were entirely devoted to open bowling/ parties. No leagues.

The newest one in my area is a Cinebowl by Frank Theatres. Pretty much what it sounds like, movies and open bowling.
The Future of Bowling: Bowling is a once-popular tavern game played with a heavy ball and ten pins.

A new center was approved to be built in Lodi, but I don't have any more info than that at the moment.  I think it's going to be independent, though.

Good to see alleys opening up.  Sucks no leagues but better than no center.

Round One just opened here in August.  It has the whole bottom floor of a (formerly) Dillard's department store as arcade and redemption.  The upstairs has 10 whole lanes of bowling, karaoke, ping ping, and a small bar area.

A friend told me that Saturday night 6 of the 10 lanes were down, with no one to fix them.  They are on the expensive side, compared to most centers in the area.  There are no leagues, just open play.

This is a large company who was building about 50 of these across the country at the same time.  Frankly, these are not bowling centers for those who bowl leagues or anything organized.

Having said that, there are lots of people playing lots of arcade games, and I'm sure their income looks great at this stage.  Some bowlers came to our place Saturday night (from there) because the line for beer was 30 people deep with one server.  The wait for lanes is bad when 10 lanes are working, with 6 of them down it would have been stupid...

I think the time is right to open SMALL centers.  They can be kept clean and modern.  It's feasible to have good draft beer, food, and a bar.  12-16 lane houses are PERFECT in my area.  I leave near a 68 lane house in Cincinnati and its empty most of the time.

We have a Round1 here.  It is essentially hot garbage.  Strictly "family fun".  From a bowling perspective, there is typically a long wait for lanes even when there are lanes not in use.  They don't have enough staff to be able to monitor all of the lanes, so they can only allow a certain number to be used at any given time.

If you are in to Japanese arcade games and "crane game" style prize games, it is great.  If you are an avid/serious bowler it is a total waste of time.
