Tucked Pinky
« on: August 20, 2006, 01:14:40 PM »
I have seen a lot of bowlers that tuck their pinky when holding the ball.  Is there any advantage or disadvantage to this?  Does it add revs or help realease, or just a personal preference.  I tried it a couple shots but i couldnt tell the difference.

Thanks in advance

i did recently try un-tucking it, and had NO success!  have way threw the approach i end up tucking it back again.

i found that with the pinky tucked i can get more side roll for the days that call for a swing of 15+ boards, it keeps the carry% up for those times. but i keep it extended when i can, i get more foreward roll, witch when i play straiter, keeps it more consisiant and less jumpy.

yes like what others said, u get more "hit" on the ball and u get more around the ball. What this will cause this to do is create a little more skid in the front part of the lane and have a little more in the back. when you're playing deeper inside the lane I think it's better to tuck it in because you carry way better.

I've never had the option of not tucking mine. Instinctively, I have my pinky straight when I line up. Just before the ball comes down in the backswing, I tuck mine. Always have. I've tried NOT doing that, and almost hurt myself.

Tucking the pinky is fun.  If you want it to go a little longer and come in nice and hard, get your pinky did.

When I used to tuck my pinky I also got a little more hit on the ball / different entry angle.

<<CAUTION>>  For those folks that like to tuck their pinky:  Please make sure that your span and/or pitch is adjusted accordingly!!  When you tuck your pinky you will put more stress on your ring finger's tendon.  If you keep the same span/pitch you run the danger of over-stressing / hurting your tendon.  I did this very thing back in college and it took me a good amount of time to return to the sport.  By adjust either your span and/or pitch you can evenly spreed the forces acting on your fingers.

Just my 2 bits...
