I think every time I hit the headpin, I should get a strike. I mean, I can hit the headpin nearly every shot, but the pins... they''re too heavy, and their COG is too low to make them topple as they should. If USBC won''t do anything about this, I think I''m going to quit bowling. I mean, I just go there to drink beer, roll strikes, and have fun. If I have to work at it, like getting the right speed, revs, and think about all the geometry and why the 10 pin still won''t fall, well it just takes all the fun out of it. If I can''t throw a strike every time, I think I''m just going to quit and find something else to do. I don''t have to spend my money on this kind of frustration! I get enough of that during the day at work!
Who''s with me here? Let''s lobby the USBC to lower the weight, as well as raise the COG on the pins to make them fall easier!! Make them earn the yearly dues they make us pay!

I think that was the point.
Oddly enough I hear this a lot from my buddy who average's 175. Think's every shot that hit's the 1-3 area should be a strike.....he's slowly realizing that it take's several factor's to be right to string strike's. Right entry angle is the biggest thing he can not fully understand, yet.

While your at it, see if ball companies can make stronger balls too, the ones we have right now aren't strong enough. Oh yeah, and see if they can come up with newer balls faster too, a new ball every two weeks isnt enough. And, instead of waitresses bringing beer to us, how about a keg at every set of lanes with a HOT beer girl waiting to pour us one straight outta the tap? This isnt too much to ask, right?

WOW, is this your day to be a jerkoff, bowling snob? I've been bowling for over 40 years and there have always be guys who think if they hit the headpin they should get a strike. Those guys you take with a grain of salt. The majority of the guys know that the only way to get better is practice. As long as the ball comapnies keep making balls that can master just about any condition the amount of practice will dwindle. For god sakes even the pros switch ball in an effort to play the same spot on the lanes. Don't be an azz just to make yourself feel better!!

ROFL.
Most of you guy's are taking this post too seriously. I mean really, you can just tell that he's not being serious just by some of the topic's he bring's up.
PEOPLE LIGHTEN UP!!

It's not just the low average bowlers that have this mentality. I'd say here in the "awesome" Ashtabula County Bowling Association, about 98% of the bowlers have this mentality.

Those that can do. Those that can't complain. Pimpin ain't easy, but it's mandatory.

Funny...I just got done watching an old PBA telecast in 1979 in San Antonio when after Mark Roth just got done bowling the 10th, Dick Ritger had to double to win. His first shot was high flush and clutch...the second shot was a straight shot with no roll through the nose to split. It seriously made me ill watching it. For that, I hate Dick Ritger!

But, like every joke, there is some truth in it. I was poking fun, but why do bowlers (the majority anyway) run away from a challenge? Why are bowlers more prone to wanting easy shots because they "just want to have fun and toss some strikes"? I've used the basketball analogy a few times in the last week or so, and that kind of perplexes me. I mean, if you have a goal that's only 6 foot up and 3 foot in diameter, it will be fun to make that long shot across the yard, or dunk on it, for about thirty minutes, and then you get bored with it. Why don't bowlers get bored with easy strikes?

i think i should get a strike no matter if it hits the head pin or not... i'm paying all this money for national dues, weekly league fees, super steriod bowling balls and so on. i'm forking out billions of dollars each season so i shouldn't even have to hit any mark on the lane or hit the head pin at all. like chuck norris, the pins should all just fall down when i stand up... 900 every time i bowl league and tournaments... yup!

Now there is your problem. You haven't spent enough.

trash,
some of us are living on a budget ya know... i mean, it's not like a can spend gazillions on bowling each season... i need to save back a billion or two in case there's an emergency like running out of pizza or something...

Well I needed a good laugh today
Thanks 9
heard this as a joke once also for ppl that dont think they need to practice
practice, who needs to do that, come on in any sport they don't practice do they?
baseball, football, hockey, golf, basketball, track, swimming, billiards, darts?
I mean they don't practice and just be good why can't I?

That is why we have Credit Cards. Just charge it. That next new ball could be "The One". Sure you might lose your house, car reprossessed, not be able to feed yourself, but you will have that all important BOWLING ARSENAL!! You know everyone will be jealous. So why deny yourself the pleasures of owning every ball made.

The funnier part is, most of the guys with this mentality that I know are:
1. Throwing a ball that's older than me
2. Never practice
3. Are usually drunk before the end of the first game.
The funniest part is:
1. They've got 5 grand invested in golf clubs,
2. Practice every chance they get and travel to every golf course in the area
3. Don't drink, because they're "serious"
4. Shoot 30 shots above par in 9 holes and it's OK because it's a tough course

I was open bowling with some friends a few nights ago, and I shot 700 with a cracked ball I had sitting in my closet. I think this game is too easy.
Hey Murphstrich, why were you open bowling? Oh that's right you quit your wed. night parking lot league. I guess no one wanted handicap on their team since you average under a duece on a wall. By the way, how come you didn't tell anyone that the 700 was for 4 games?

How How How I ask you is that possible with 2 mulligans, 3 re do's, all putts within 5 feet...and playing from the forward tees....
Oh wait, you said 30 over par... Oh, those are the guys playing Nike....oops
Cause no TaylorMade man shoots 30 over....

Well at least all the foregoing nonsense is more reasonable than are those folks who say they're quitting the game because "bowling is too easy." I guess they must be retiring with all that cash they've been accumulating all these years while winning all those regional titles, NOT.
