Bowling Mistakes
« on: November 21, 2011, 09:07:31 AM »
Lets list some of the common mistakes most bowler make....

I was bowling @ USA bowl in Dallas and was killing the packet and bowled 232.  Next game I started hanging 10 pin and made every adjustment and got lost..  My score dropped to 165 because of  my stupid adjustments....  Glad I had some strong team member which game me hell afterwards but I deserved...

I get a kick out of seeing the people who think just because their ball touches the head pin, (no matter, light, flush, high, through the face, jersey [or brooklyn] or even just enough to knock it over) they think they deserve a strike haha.  Or the ones, that anytime they throw a bad shot, they look at their hand like it is their hands fault lol.

PAP- 4in right, 2in up of center of grip.
Rev Rate-400ish
Ball Speed 18.0-19.0 mph
I score well with a slight chicken wing
Arsenal (for now)
DV8 Hell Raiser
DV8 Misfit- Orange and Blue, Light scuff with scotch bright to smooth out reaction
???
Storm Natural

Bowler is on a string, hangs a single pin on a good hit.  Loses concentration and misses the spare, completely ruining what could have still been a good game.  --  JohnP

How about the guy who is always complaining about other people getting "lucky" and carrying everything. They let themselves get distracted by it and their own game suffers. If they only realized you can't play defense in this sport lol.

I didn't mention the obvious moving your spot on the approach on my previous post Zanatos because you already said you "made every adjustment".
So I am trying to come up with some less common yet useful ones for you.
I have one more that you could try - and that is lofting the ball a little - you only need about a yard, but if you lay the ball down just past the foul line each time, then this is a useful and easy adjustment.  The benefit is obvious - it will spend less time on the lane and travel less distance on the lane itself giving it more chance of reaching the pocket on your usual track.
I don't hear this adjustment being touted much these days - perhaps more old school, although you do see some bowlers who really launch the ball about 12 feet down the lane.
An old bowling buddy showed me this when I first started bowling fingertip about 18 years ago - he said pretend there is a gap in the lane of about a yard and bowl "over" it. You can even go a little further if you need it. It works for me.

When a team of good bowlers (200+)  give up and bowl well below their average, when they bowl a team and have to give up 200-300 pins a game.  I keep reminding them, that there is a reason we give so many pins.  Some don't listen and are defeated before they start.

Personally, if someone asks me, I will always offer advice if I can see a mistake they are making and I have a solution for them.
One big mistake to make is not to listen to good advice if an experienced bowler offers it - it takes some courage for that when someone is down in the dumps. Never be too proud to at least listen, then one can mull over the advice and see if it is right for them.

Listening too much to other people.  Often what they tell you are doing wrong is actually what they are having

trouble with.
