I've Narrowed It Down... Help me!
« on: August 20, 2009, 05:10:52 PM »
well after a lot of research and reading hundreds of reviews I've narrowed my upcoming men's league 2-ball combo to these:

- Pluto/Neptune
- Noize/Freeze
- Nomad Solid/Mars
- Fast/Furious

So which would you choose? If you don't like any of these combos, suggest your own and i will research and talk to my pro shop guy! My house is a 39' buffered to 42' house shot on wood lanes with heavy-medium oil content and very clean backends. My ball speed is around 16 mph with medium revs (i will be switching from 15lb to 14lb this year however so this may change). Thanks everyone!

If the backs are really clean, you should try to start off with a little surface to smooth the transition of the end of the pattern. My Noize was pretty flippy and it wasn't something that I would usually start off with although I did really like the ball. Out of those I would probably go with the Fast and the Furious. The Furious should be rollier and you could take it to around 1000 and start with that ball and it should smooth out the pattern in the beginning.

I second that. (out of those)

fast and furious look like the best combo.

furious should be able to make it into the medium/heavy catagory just fine
and the fast should work in medium/medium light.... (bounce it off the friction)

you really could go with any of those combos as they are all going to cover just about the exact same conditions... (very similar strength on terms of oil handling)

I would go with the nomad solid and pearl instead of the mars.

If I were to narrow it down again. It would be Nomad/Mars and Noize/Freeze.
I hate ten pins but love the game of bowling with just the right ball to take them out.

You've got a hard choice to make . . .

The Nomad series looks hard to beat this year, I don't know if I could pass up getting atleast one of them.

The Fast/Furious line looks really good too.  I have the Fast and am considering getting the Furious.  I like my Fast a lot, with only a few games on it so far.  I did have to take the oob surface to 4000 abralon by hand tho.  It was way too strong off the friction for me.  Once I hit it with the 4k pad it smoothed out the backend and found a spot in my bag for this year.  I also have the Mars, drilled the same as the Fast 5x3 pin up weight hole on pap.  I wanted this to compliment the Fast when the lanes were drier.  I hit this with a 4k pad as well and it's a good 5+ boards weaker than the Fast.  This ball is a winner for sure and just solidifies the Planet line for Roto.  Personally a Pluto/Mars combo would be better than the Pluto/Neptune.  The Pluto was a wicked sleeper for Roto.  It really is a great ball.

I don't know much about the Columbia releases but a revival, so to speak, of the messenger looks sweet.

Drillings are really up to you and what works best for your style.  I would use your favorite drilling on both balls and let surface adjustments dictate your look of choice on the lanes.  When it comes to this there are too many variables . . .  Talk to your driller and hammer out the drillings with him.

Good luck, these are all good balls!!!!

Why do you choices have to be from the same company? My vote would do a Furious/Freeze combo.

I'd say fast and furious, if you have some hand do 5" pin to pap on both, but pin down on the Furious, pin up the Pearl, if not so much hand go closer to 4" pin to pap and do the same pin down on the Furious and pin up on the Fast.
