Was reading an article the other day about equipment selection vs lane conditions and saw a couple of terms that I was not familiar with. One referred to a High Center of Gravity bowling ball vs a Low Center of Gravity Ball. The other referred to a washed ball vs unwashed ball. Is the High CG ball vs Low CG ball considered RG values, example 2.60 rg vs 2.40 rg, or is it something different? As far as the washed vs unwashed I have no idea, what is this? Thanks for the help.

Aloarjr810, it was a hand out paper given to me by another bowler, it read " Three part ball(High Center of Gravity); Polished, Low Porosity Cover; Finger Weight; No Side Weight; Use this ball for dry lane condition where you still want some hook potential, but not a lot".

I might urge caution... This is the way we wrote things down 20 years ago. Back then they actually made and referred to cores as 2-piece and 3-piece. I guess that may still be true today... maybe not, but it's a sure sign of old-school. High Center = High Rg, low porosity = higher shell hardness level. Polished and finger weight were true to get the ball down the lane and snap later.
Washed vs unwashed.... No idea unless (and this is REALLY guessing) washed meant put it in the ball cleaner found at the lanes, which actually cleaned and polished, not washed....

I'm pretty much with lefty50.
Things like "Three part ball", "Low Porosity", "Finger Weight; No Side Weight that's come from something old like from some old bowling magazine/book.
As for the High & Low Center of Gravity Ball, I wouldn't hazard a guess. I doubt it has anything to do with RG.
Now if they said "Core heavy" or "Cover heavy" ball, Now that is a old way of referring to RG (Core Heavy=Low RG, Cover Heavy=High RG).
as for the "washed ball vs unwashed ball." I would guess wiping/cleaning the ball.
This puts me in mind of the articles you find on allexperts.com, most all are outdated junk.
They are copied from old bowling magazines/books/flyers and you'll see weird terminology used. Which is because it's been translated from another language.
It would be interesting to see a scan of the handout to see what all it said.
Here's a example from the late 80's of a old chart that used the terms "Three part ball", "Porosity", "Finger Weight" "No Side Weight"

Washed vs. unwashed..hehehehe.... I prefer to clean my balls before and after using it.

Center of Gravity is very important when drilling a ball... ;)

High center of gravity probably refers to a less dense core which would equate to higher rg. I have no idea what washed refers to

In the real old days...drill patterns were called...1 o'clock, 3 o'clock 4:30...etc etc...
Then time went on and things started to change...And one day a bowler wrote in and asked MO....what is a 1 o'clock drilling....And the answer was..."1 o'clock is a time of day"...
And in the really old days...people would ask for 5/8 sw and 1/4 fw...lol...
And the funniest one of all was when the first Hammer came out...The Black Hammer... If anyone is old enough to remember...Lefties hated the ball...LOL
In those days the pin was in black and hard to see...And most drillers did not
put the pin in the right position for a left handed bowler...lol... and the balls didn't hook...
And nobody had ever heard of the Mass Bias...lol...

Whenever someone says "This ball is controllable" it means "I can jam on it as hard as I want and it barely makes a move"
