Title: Bowling This Month is back in business
Post by: milorafferty on April 10, 2014, 12:41:18 PM
I just received the following email from BTM.

As many of you know, the past six months have been a challenging period for Bowling This Month magazine. The final issue was printed in October 2013 and, shortly thereafter, it was forced to suspend its operations due to financial difficulties. This left BTM's customers, many whom had significant time remaining on their subscriptions, empty-handed. While this was difficult for everyone, it did create the opportunity for BTM to have a fresh start; that fresh start is the topic of this message.

Over the past several months, Bowling This Month has been transitioning to new ownership under a new parent company in preparation for its re-launch as an online magazine. We have a new look, a new website, and a new delivery format, but everything else will remain the same:

Our mission is to be the world's best technical resource for serious bowlers.
We will continue to bring you the best instructional content from the world's top coaches and experts.
We will continue to deliver in-depth, accurate, and independent bowling ball reviews that will help you make better equipment choices for your game.
We are frequently asked what we will be doing regarding compensation for unfulfilled print magazine subscriptions. Coming through for BTM's existing subscribers is our top priority. While we can't turn back the clock and undo the damage that was done when the magazine unexpectedly folded, we can do the right thing as part of our re-launch and offer free trial memberships to all BTM print magazine subscribers who had portions of their subscriptions go unfulfilled. I really hope that you will take advantage of this offer and become a subscriber as we move forward and build Bowling This Month into an excellent online resource for serious bowlers.

Your Free Trial Subscription Information
According to our records, you have 10 month(s) remaining on your BTM print magazine subscription. This means that you are eligible for 10 month(s) of membership to the new Bowling This Month online magazine at no charge.

Your free trial code is: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

To redeem your free trial subscription, simply enter the above code on the checkout page when you are creating your website account. To get started, choose your subscription plan now or click here if you'd like more information about the available subscription options.

Sincerely,

It doesn't look like it. Might be a good one to suggest to them though.

I just stopped in here for the first time in over a year to see if I could find out why I had not received a BTM in several months, and I guess I just found out.  I have not received a paper letter or email from them, so I had no idea what had happened.  I wonder if I will receive anything from them in any format so that I can decide what to do about the remainder of my subscription?  I have received (and still have) every issue since the fall of 1996.  I'm not sure that I'm interested in an on-line magazine.

Jeff, thanks for the post.

Fellas, I just subscribed to BTM for a full year at $37.75 (a 10% reduction). When I think of the $$$ that I wasted on bowling gadgets and stuff that did not work, the sum of $37.75 for a good publication sounds like a bargain.

Apple Newstand edition would be awesome. I live on my iPad. If the site is ipad friendly I may pull the trigger on a subscription.

That's good news, but I haven't received any notification like that and I've been a subscriber since 2001 or 2002.

Exactly. My iPad is my primary browsing device. Just like with XtraFrame. I didn't subscribe until there was an app.

I didnt receive one either. Email them through the link and they will find your subscription via your email address. They will then send you the code.

I'm glad they are back in business and that I received a free trial subscription, but the regular price of a web based subscription (almost $38) seems high.  I think a print subscription was a little cheaper than that and a large part of the cost had to be the printing and mailing of a magazine.

I'll use the free trial, but don't know if I'll bother continuing afterwards.  I don't mind books on a tablet, but really can't get into a magazine the same way.
