Bowling with Tennis Elbow
« on: April 28, 2007, 11:33:57 AM »
Went to an orthopedic surgeon for the pain in my wrist.  Beyond tendonitis, which I already knew I had, he diagnosed me with tennis elbow.  He pinched me right above my inner elbow and *yeow!* that hurt.

He says it's common with golfers, too.  So now I'm taking naproxen (anti-inflammatory) and crack cocaine.  Ok, not the crack cocaine, but naproxen for real.

Anyone have to adjust their bowling due to tennis elbow?

I've just got my first touch of tendonitis last week. I not even thinking about tennis elbow! What do you do for tendonitis....without the addicting drugs.

If it's a flare up, take a week or two off from bowling and:
Ice 20 minutes every hour.
Ice massage if you can stand it.
Anti-inflammatory (advil, aleve).
If you must bowl, do the above and wear something to anchor the tendon - an elbow band if it's elbow tendonitis - a wrist band of some sort if it's in the wrist.
I have both wrist and elbow tendonitis. Elbow on both outside and inside below the joint.
I wear an elbow band - all it does is keep the tendon from flexing too much and aggravating the inflammation.
I wear a wrist GLOVE with the 4" velcro wrist part. I take the metal out of it, and make the velcro as tight as I can stand. It helps support my wrist - without doing something weird to my release.

lay-off bowling for a while to let the tendons heal or drop your ball weight by a pound for a while.
i was throwing 16lb for 15yrs..then last year i started getting a lot of elbow pain.
i dropped to 15lb and it was fine..but i also found out it was my mechanics that was causing the pain.
well i now am back to throwing 16lbs with no problems.

My pain is about 2 inches below the elbow on the top of my forearm. It that where I should wear the band? Directly on the area that is giving me pain? I can't lay off bowling. We only have 5 weeks left and then I'm off 'till the fall.

It started hurting me last Monday. I bowled 3 leagues and with practice, I must have thrown 12-13 games that day. After about 8-9 games I noticed some tightness in my arm. I managed to bowl the last league and I was doing alright until the last game. I bowled a 131 and I just couldn't get any mustard on my shot.
