From time to time I am struck by the thought of how much I have learned about all things related to bowling by reading the posts on this site. Thanks to all of you for sharing your struggle to master this game.
Very often I have read a post that caused me to remember a particular experience on the lane that I didn't give enough attention to at the time, or that led me to experientation with someting new that caused an improvement in my game.
A few days ago Bob Hanson replied to a question about having a free swing... "If you have a straight arm swing, without tension in the elbow you probably have a decent free swing. Many people do not agree with me, but I think in todays environment, the pure pendulum swing will not generally create enough ball speed. I still propose a modified penulum swing, but I believe a little acceleration from the muscles is necessary, unless you can get a very high back swing."
I noticed that I had a relaxed elbow during one of my practice games, several months ago, that led me to to a 278. Somehow I did not put enough attention on that feeling so I did not identify one of the major factors that led to a great score.
Bobs' post keyed the memory and I have been giving attention to feeling the relaxed elbow in practice and during league. As a result I am more accurate and I am seeing an increase in rev rate, and an increase in my average.
SawBones always posts thoughtful comments based on years of experience.
Charlest trims the fat away from the muscle and bone of all things bowling.
King of the Mill, T-God, BrunsRich in particular, and many others have helped me reach a better understanding of ball construction and drilling.
LuckyLefty wrote extensivly of his experiemnts with ball fitting and this led me into a series of experiments that have resulted in a ball that fits comfortably. Lucky has also written recently of the attitude needed to bowl well and I have found those posts to be helpful also.
I don't recall the name of the compiler of the ballreviews FAQ but I have been grateful to him for his efforts to help all of us.
Bowlers who post videos seeking constructive help with their form...recently bamaster posted a vid that pointed out the need for attention to every single detail in the quest for the perfect execution every time the ball is rolled.
A vid I would like to see is newguy rolling the Threshold.
Thanks to all.
