Grips or NO grips?
« on: June 24, 2007, 02:11:25 PM »
Alright.  I'm looking into drilling my next ball (yeah, whenever that'll be...) without actual grips.  I'm going to keep my thumb slug, though.  It's going to be a bit of an experiment, as I haven't had a ball w/o rubber finger grips, but the opinions fly both ways.  Why do or why don't you like grips in your bowling ball?

I agree with coachlefty. I quit using grips 12 years ago and never looked back.

The feel ball to ball is more consistent, the release is cleaner, and most importantly for a ball-whore like me, its cheaper to go no grips. I am glad I made the switch and haven't looked back.

Two major advantages without grips.  1.  Cost  2.  Your span is always the same.  I've replaced grips for customers that had let them wear so badly that their span had been reduced almost 1/4".  --  JohnP

i have balls drilled with and w/o grips, i personaly like grips just becuase i just believe that the ball feels better in my hands and i dont feel like if my fingers get a little sweaty im gonna drop the ball, but the ones i do have drilled without grips i do love and almst considerd going no grips completely.

It's all a matter of feel.  There really isn't a right or wrong answer.

I used to use straight holes exclusively but now all my new stuff has inserts. I found that it's easier to punch out because I don't have to ask the driller to bevel here or there on the finger holes.  The feel is almost the same across balls and for some the burn on the fingers is minimized as well.  I used to really burn on the fingertips but now it's much better.

So for the OP what do you like?

Fred Flintstone doesn't bevel his thumb or fingers either

Yes, bowling is so easy a caveman can do it.
