Help! getting forearm pain
« on: October 29, 2014, 04:43:48 PM »
Just recently I have developed pain and tightness in the top of my forearm in the area near my elbow joint after bowling. Not feeling it whist bowling but the next day there is tightness and mild pain. I have never had this problem before but recently have changed to oval thumb inserts(Vise pre drilled sleeves). I guess its associated with this somehow but not sure. Could this be a gripping too hard problem or similar?

what you have may be a lateral or medial epicondylitis, or tennis elbow. If you're gripping the ball too much as you bowl, this may be the cause of your elbow pain. But, other activities such as holding a hammer to hammer down nails can cause elbow pain. The tendon that attaches the bone and arm muscles may be affected.

You can try using a foream brace/strap, or tennis elbow band, I don't know what they call it. But any drug or sporting goods stores have them. I would also suggest you check the size of the thumb hole or your overall grip. If you squeeze too much and too often, you will develope tennis elbow.

There are stretches you can do at home which you can find on the web to help you. I hope this helps....

Thanks xray...I dont have any pain or problem in the elbow. The pain is in the forearm muscle on the top of my arm.

What you are describing is exactly what I have. It cut my bowling down from multiple nights a week to every other Saturday. Bowling and golf and biggest (besides tennis) causes of tennis elbow from what I read.

i have also had this pain before for years. it was from too much grip pressure or squeezing(gripping) too hard. i would check your fit and not reccommend predrilled thumb inserts. always have balls drilled to fit your hand. the forearm support band helped me very much

what i did to relieve this pain was to stretch really well before and after bowling. by holding your arm straight out in front of you and use your other hand to properly flex your wrist as far as possible down and then up to loosen the tendons on both sides of your elbow.

what ultimately relieved the pain was to work to decrease squeezing throughout my swing. in my case i worked with my coach
