Bowled for the first time in over a year!
« on: February 05, 2009, 01:36:58 PM »
About this time last year I injured my back and had to give up bowling.  I just couldn't lift anything, let alone sling a ball down the lane.  I've had time to heal and chiropratic visits, and therapy.  Finally tonight I decided to see how far along I have come.  Got out my like new Toxic.  Bought it, used it one night, then my back went bad.  Threw a game tonight and didn't do too bad.  Had a 173 with striking out in the 10th.  May not be a big game, but after thinking I'd never be able to bowl again, it sure feels good to know I still have a chance to get back to it.

Good for you.  Take it easy though, you don't want to re-injure your back.

Thanks.  Im probably just going to bowl 1 game every other week or so.  Just to do it and build up the muscles again.  I will definatly not do anything to mess my back up again.

It's great to get back to bowling as long as you don't overdo it. I wouldn't use bowling as a back strengthening tool, because proper body mechanics will allow your legs to carry most of the load. Are there other things your doc has prescribed to do that will strengthen the injured area?  Good luck as you move forward.

I pretty much just have to stretch daily and walk when I can.  I'm not really using bowling to strengthen the muscles, but more to get some of the muscles ya don't use all the time active again.

Talk to your doctor and ask if bowling is allowed in your case.

When I ruptured a disc and had to have surgery, the doctor said I could start bowling again after PT but only with a much lighter ball.  I ended up buying two 13# balls and used those for 3-4 months before I was allowed to move back to my normal 15#.

Welcome back to this great sport.
