Took a whole 2 weeks before 300 shot
« on: August 31, 2004, 01:08:53 PM »
I was shocked with the THS put out on my Monday scratch league that it took 2 weeks before somebody had an honor score.  I was misfortunate enough to witness this latest farse as I was next to it.  The hack in question was playing somewhere between 15 and 25 at the arrows, rolling 2-pins forward, tripping nose shots, etc. and I was helpless to watch.  Stop the insanity!!  This wasn't a perfect game or even a moderately well thrown game.  I'm just disappointed in myself for not being able to take advantage of this yet.  Better not be too long or I'll get bored with it.  If I can't shoot an honor score or have a challenging condition, then where's the fun?

I bet my Tuesday league doesn't take 2 whole weeks for an honor score.  Will find out tonight.

ksucat: I'm expecting in the Monday night industrial league I bowl in at least one or two honor scores a week, there are at least 10 people that average 220 or better and another 10 that are at the 210 or better plateau. One guy this summer was at 240 for a summer league with a couple of 800's again.

In my Tuesday night industrial league that I just started, I will be very surprised if there is more than one 700 series for the year and a couple of 250 plus games in that house. There hasn't been a 300 in that house for 8 years, and I know it's been 10 years since there was an 800 series.

Well if your crying about that, check this out

Last yr at Spectrum lanes in Grand Rapids, Mi   there was a guy who in the first 5 weeks, had 2 or 3 800's along with 3  300's,  his low series was like a 740.   And this was from some 50yr old guy, who was a full roller, going right off the right hand gutter.

how about this...5 300's on ONE PAIR DURING A LEAGUE SESSION!  country lanes in staten island, ny, had this happen 2 years ago if i remember correctly, and the averages are through the roof.  i have never seen so many bowlers who stick to one house because they cant bowl on anything but the easiest THS ever designed.  you couldnt miss if you tried, and 40% of the league averaging 210+ is what ends up happening as a result.  you watch people get all excited playing straight up 5, throwing it all over and just burying the pocket.  you look up at the board and all you see are "X"'s, and very few numbers until the game is finished.  my sunday morning trio league in new jersey has a 615 cap...shows you what the shot does to your average...country lanes needs a 615 cap for a doubles league...thats how ridiculous it is.

Well it has been years in the one house we bowl in since i have seen a 300 or 800. I love that place to average 200 there you have to be consistent because you cant flux to much. In my first night of league i shot 191,205,200 and i bowl very well except missed 2 easy spares and had one split. Some complain about the house but when i bowl well there i know i can go anywhere else and bowl well.

Hey these types of scores happen more than we hear about...that's for sure!  Two years ago I shot 300 the second game of the first night of a given league.  Sad part was that I didn't have the first 300 of the league!!!

Hopefully nobody ever feels too bad about not shooting numbers when there are some being thrown up with them.  It's all a matter of how you match up and are executing for a given set.  I've bowled with my best friend since we were kids and there are nights where one of us will kill the shot while the others struggles.  It just happens...if all bowlers matched up correctly all the time then the averages would be even higher!

I'm still worried about my Monday league, but Tuesday has made up for it.  We had an 800 shot and the had more Keglers Cash winners than I could count.  I was bowling against the manager and joked that next week's shot would be a lot tougher because he was giving away too much money.  He just smirked and said that next week will have the 1st shift bowl in front of us and it wouldn't be so easy.  This house is notorious for its thrifty ways, so I still believe there will be a little less oil to start with next week.

I'm going on record now that there will definitely be another honor score shot on my Monday night league.  I just hope I can hack my way into one just to win some points.

Bob,

No, I don;t think it is, I think he was making an editorially rhetorical comment onhow easy the shot and how high the scores are at that particular set of lanes.

sarcasm...exactly...and if you saw what i was talking about first-hand, you would come ever closer to seriously agreeing with me

put it this way...a 180 junior bowler, at best, shot 817 on a second shift junior league.  another 180 junior bowler, at best, shot 300 the next week.  these same kids, bowling at the wood house i used to hold HIGH AVERAGE AT WITH A 201 before it closed last year, couldnt break 170 if they tried.  now if that doesnt tell you how easy it is, then i dont know what kind of proof is necessary.

Our scratch league beat you. It wasn't the first game of the league, it was the second. And it was by a sub!!!!

Well, our scratch league starts next Thursday.  Last year, there were *no* honor scores shot.  However, I'd attribute that more to the quality of the players in the league than to the scoreability of the lane condition.
