Hey BR, fam. I hate writing this, but I don't know what else to do.
I sent Impending Doom $115 for a NIB 900 Global ball back on June 4th, and he still hasn't shipped it. He gave a few reasons as to why (didn't get a chance to visit his storage bin, problems with his kids), and I've been patient with him - pandemics are hard and I understand everybody's got their stuff to handle. But 3+ months is a bit much.
I tried PMing him multiple times, but to no avail. I sent him an email earlier today in hopes of getting a response, but at this point I'm feeling like I was had. If anybody knows him, or has a phone number I can use to directly contact Doom, that would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: changed 5+ months to 3+, because I struggle with counting.
-
Well it’s only been 3 months if you sent payment June 4.....but that is waaaaay too long. He just posted in the Motiv VIP thread on September 1 so he’s been around. Hope this gets resolved.
-
This is very surprising to hear. I hope it gets resolved.

You're right - it's only 3 months. And math is my strong suit, lol
-
Yeah it’s all good. 3 weeks is too long let alone 3 months. He was on here last night according to his profile in the last active part. Any way for you to recover the payment and move on?
-
Please let us know what happens with this ... VERY UNUSUAL!
-
Hate for it to be dealt with this way, but maybe starting posting in the threads he is posting in and ask for him for contact/replies.
-
Did this ever get resolved or acknowledged?
-
Could it be that Impending Doom is having BIG PROBLEMS? He was an 'every day' poster here and suddenly NOTHING .. I think that's quite unusual!
-
Using noodles June 4th date - Doom has posted 57 times on here since Noodle paid him. If you have time to post on here 57 times - you have plenty of time to ship one ball - so I wouldn’t buy that excuse.
-
Y’all are way to soft on a regular poster stiffing someone. If you don’t have time to ship a ball you have time to issue a refund, unless you’re a deadbeat. And after 3 months with no response to PM or email the deadbeat label has been confirmed. The surprising thing was the OP waiting 3 months before calling them out.
Hopefully it was paid with PayPal goods and services and not friends and family so a claim can be filed. Never send f&f.
-
Is anyone surprised?
-
Is anyone surprised?
I am surprised. The guy was a regular on this forum with 6,000 + posts. I had no dealings with him, but from reading his posts, I thought that he was OK and knew the sport pretty well.
-
Is there any Update? Did you issue a refund successfully?
-
Lets be honest though. He chose "IMPENDING DOOM" as a screen name for a reason. A generally positive guy and someone who is happy in life and trustworthy probably isnt picking that kind of screen name. But I could be wrong. In fact, I hope I am wrong. What this site needs is a seller and buyer rating like Ebay does. That would probably help take some of the risk away. For the most part we all get along and want to help each other out from a bowling standpoint. But at the end of the day, how many people would trust me with more than $100.00 if you have never actually met me before? I am in no way suggesting Noodle messed up because he didnt. Impending Doom needs to be held accountable. I hope and pray that he comes on here, swallows his pride, and owes up to what he did.

What the site users used to do is list your purchases and sales in your profile. This was some years back if you look at some of the older profiles some are still set up this way. My profile is an example.
-
Hey BR gang, no responses from Doom from the direct email I sent him. Also no responses from the BR direct message.
I tried asking PayPal to kill the payment, but since it was made as "Friends & Family", there was no automatic option to cancel the payment. So I'm going to contact PayPal's customer service and see if anything can be done.
I also received Doom's phone number from another user that knows him, so I'll give him a call after my work day today and see if I can get a response.
And while $115 may not seem like a lot of cash, maybe Doom needed it more than we all know. Hopefully he's okay and everything situates itself.
-

I'm curious if this is Doom with an alter ego. The account was made 2 days after I started this thread.

Yeah, I learned this one the hard way! Thankfully it wasn't for $1,115.
-
If you can’t get a refund via PayPal I would call his local police (assuming you know his address) and file a police report for fraud. Might be the spark needed.
-
It's a shame to hear all of this. Never expected this from Doom. Seemed like an ok kind of guy here at BR. He needs to step up right now to take responsibility and make things right, or his reputation here is likely damaged forever, if it's not too late already. If you can't reach him by phone, strongly consider contacting the police, and hopefully you have saved any emails, PMs, or texts that relate to purchasing the ball from him.
-
Man I'm sure it's a misunderstanding. I'm sure the truth will come.
I hope he's not sick 😔 or something
-

If you can post here, you can take the time to communicate with someone concerning a transaction. Sick or not. Takes just as much time.

Agreed. He's been nothing short of good to us all these years though--is all I'm saying.

100% - the chats we'd have in the forum threads and in direct messages is the only reason why I bought from Doom. He was nothing short of informative, generous with his time and experience, and a seemingly fun person.
-
Noodlejester .. anxious to know how you did with the PHONE CALL?
-
Well for everyone hoping Doom is ok he logged in today at 754 according to his profile. So it’s back to if you have enough time to post or log in you have enough time to either ship the ball or provide a refund or answer a dang message. Come on man
-
One thing to keep in mind, that you can set up your account so that you are always logged on. Does that mean that if someone else opens up your browser that you are logged on to this site at that time? Devil's advocate and all that.
-
Nope because yesterday the log in showed either 9/10 or 9/11 as the last log on for him.
-
Still doesn't mean that the computer wasn't off until today.
-
Stop making excuses trying to possibly justify a 3 month delay. Excuses followed by cutting off communication is somebody gaming the system and taking advantage of noodle's mistake of sending the money by friends and family. If it was truly a mistake any decent person would own up to their error and return the money AND send the ball.
-
Noodlejester .. anxious to know how you did with the PHONE CALL?
Nothing yet. I sent a text assuming it's a cell phone number.
Thanks everybody for the help - it's greatly appreciated. Worst comes to worse, I got had for $115 and learned my lesson to never use Friends & Family on PayPal.

When you paid by PayPal, what was the source for PayPal? I use a credit card so it will be protected by them too.
-
Hope he's doing okay and everything resolves itself. He's been invaluable in helping me with 900G equipment, layouts and the such. No idea how to contact him, though.
-
I had the same thing happen with him about 9 months ago, but he did eventually send the ball so I'M sure he will send it at some point. actually took about 3 months also
-
Thanks Jumba98 ..takes a lot of WORRY out of the situation!
-
WOW... I am sad and pissed to find out about this. The guy seemed like an honest people to deal with. What a disappointment.
I hope he is not sick or in trouble, but even if he is, if he had the chance to connect and comment on this page for the last three months, there is no excuse to avoid contact with the buyer or to send a refund if he is not going to be able to ship a bowling ball. What a way to destroy a reputation for $115. :(
In the meantime, I know he wanted to be a Motiv staffer in the future since he was let go by 900 Global (which by the way he always talked about multiple balls and never, never showed a video of him throwing any of the balls he claimed he had) but after this, Motiv will never hire a person with this kind of behavior.
I hope you get your money back and this guy needs to be held accountable for this. What a shame.

I actually had it set up with my checking account. After this situation, I changed it to a Credit Card so I can track it back.

Good to know, jumba98. Here's to hoping he's alright.
-
8 days since the last post and 19 since the topic started. Any resolution????? Close to 4 months now.
-
What's the update here?
-
Guess there is no update
-
28 days and still nothing??? Horrendous

I cannot believe this.

I cannot believe this.
You could say it's unbelievable. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pe7oYXSaRfY)
-
Impending Doom....prophetic.
-
I never would have seen this coming.
I’m just wondering theoretically what the reason could possibly be to not even respond......I honestly have no idea.
-
given COVID and all the other issues going on; I do hope Doom is ok and will eventually make it right for Noodlejester
-
I do hope Doom is OK as well as his family etc....I’m just wondering if we did give him the benefit of the doubt and that he legitimately made an innocent mistake and completely forgot or something medical or.....I don’t know something serious, what could it be and what would seem most plausible?
-
I want to give Doom the benefit of the doubt--the guy is practically a hero on this board--but how could it possibly be forgetfulness when noodle has tried this hard to contact him? Especially since Doom was basically a daily presence on this board until this started.
-

No I get that, I’m just trying to get everyone to contribute what they think the cause of this situation could be. Not to comment on whether it’s an acceptable reason, but collectively what we think could lead to this situation.
I can’t think of a reason outside of him having a medical episode or in jail or something of the like.....
-
There’s another post in this thread concerning Doom taking months to ship a ball. So this isn’t the first occurrence. Sort of takes out the benefit of the doubt etc.
-
Anyone know his real name?
-
I’ve known him on here for quite a while, but never his real name or any of that, I believe some former members up near Chicago know him.....
I have met a few people off here at Nationals events, always nice to put a face to names.
-
Anyone know his real name?
Would we be able to check with any resident 900 Global staffers here for recent contracts for that Chicago and surrounding burbs?
-
Anyone know his real name?

this dude might know. if he got a ball from him previously, it may have had a name on the package...
-
Sorry don't know, I never even thought to look at the time, and I threw out the box the ball came in.
-
Sometimes, you just have to write things off and move on. This looks like one of those cases.
Maybe the guy hit the skids because of major trauma in his life. Whatever. He clearly decided to disappear and at this point, the ball isn't going to show up. Maybe someday in the future a package will show up at your door. In the mean time, lessons learned.
-
His real name is Jeremy, at least that's what he's told me in past direct messages.
And as for an update - there is none =/. I just hope Doom is healthy, as is his family.
-
Could this guy or his wife/kids/relatives been affected by covid?
What the fuck i get you paid for a ball, but its a bowling ball! A whopping $115
-
It really speaks a lot for his continued presence (until now) here that so many people are blindsided by this happening. I hope that whatever is going on with him clears up soon and all this gets straightened out.
-
One possibility is to contact Joe Lichner Motiv staffer from his area. I believe he is the Motiv guy that IE spoke of in NE Illinois. Maybe Joe can put you in touch. Joe has a YouTube channel. I believe Joe is from Warrenville, IL. Worth a shot if you are getting no response noddlejester.
Read this thread noodlejester. Make sense? That should help put you on the trail if Joe can help. https://www.ballreviews.com/motiv/midwest-motiv-test-drives/msg2620851/#msg2620851
-
You guys seem to forget A) he has done this before when there were no issues as Jumba has stated and B) the OP paid for the ball in June and Doom was still posting here in Late August so there was plenty of time to ship the ball while nothing bad happened to him or his family.
That’s called a pattern. That speaks more to his character than anything else.
Oh - if it’s only $115 so who cares - how about everyone just PayPal me $115. I gladly take your “donationâ€.
Let’s see how many offer it up.
-
It's a shame about the money, but there is always a reason. Hopefully he makes it right, and he's alright.
-
Can’t we stop trying to justify or find an excuse for this guy? He stole $115. Plain and simple. He was still posting till September 15th, way too much time to ship a bowling ball, regardless of covid, aliens, earthquakes or whatever.
Stop sugarcoating this. The guy stole money from a guy who trusted him, no other way to see it.

I gave noodlejester a good way to figure out how to get in touch with ID thru Motiv staffer Joe L. Up to him now to work this out. It's evident that ID is not coming forward. You can see from my post with some research you can get your ball or money back. Pandemic or not this is ridiculous.
-
Although contacting a friend might work - in this day and age who knows. It’s worth a shot.
Agree with not sugar coating it. It’s straight theft - plain and simple.
For the crowd stating it was only $115 - I have yet to get anyone to take my offer of just sending me $115 for no reason. Sounds to me like it’s just $115 when it’s not your money at stake.
-
His name should be on the PayPal transaction. Post his name. That way he gets blackballed from every being on some other staff because there is a 99.9% chance this "sale" was for an undrilled staff ball.
Between PayPal, the USBC member lookup and Google it can't be hard to find him.
-
I know his name, i grew up bowling with him.
-
Well...have you been in contact with him lately?
-
Absolutely do not get in the middle.
-
I am sure we can help OP get at least his money back. We do need his name though...
I hate when things like this happen. We can put his name on FB on the bad sellers group so people won't have to deal with stuff like this in the future.

After some digging with some 900 Global staffers and a little Facebook browsing I think I have the name of the guy. His name is Jeremy Migonis.
This is his Facebook profile: https://www.facebook.com/jeremy.migonis
Hopefully this will help on getting in touch with him and make him accountable for stealing from a member of this group.

Cheers!

I would be extra careful before I would put someone's name out on the internet.
The fact that Impending Doom has not commented on this thread speaks volumes to me. But I wouldn't want to hang a fraud monitor on an innocent persons real name.
On the internet or anywhere, buyer beware.

Except he hasn't posted on his FB page in over 4 years.
Kudo to Average Joe for trying to help you out. But it's clear the guy doesn't want to talk to you. He's ignored every contact you've made. Other than knocking on his door and making a scene, I'm scratching my head on what you can do.
-
One can call his local police and file fraud charges. It’s been done before and this wouldn’t be the last time either.
I would make it very clear in one last message. Refund by X date and time. Once that has passed my next move is a call to the police to file charges.

Good point. I don't personally know how much cooperation you get from local police in these situations, but if that's an avenue, by all means.
-
He bowled 3 games in a sanctioned league last year. Before that not sanctioned since 2007-2008. From all his posts sounded like he was bowling all the time. Must have been in non-sanctioned competition. Weird.
-
Interesting
-
If it turns out that the name is correct, maybe you could always attempt to contact 900 Global and let them know what their staff member did. It could possibly provide a resolution. Plus it also lets them know what one of their staff members is doing, which could also punish him as well (possible loss of staff contract due to conduct).
-
He lost his Global Advisory Staff contract at the turn of the year.

How he got it in the first place is what surprises me.

Sure seems like it, doesn't it? His bowl.com profile if we have the right name, which im confident we do, make it seem like he wouldn't be staff material really makes you scratch your head.

Maybe he worked at a Pro-Shop for a bit and got a contract that way? I know a few folks that are average bowlers but get contracts because they run leagues as PSOs and can promote products all season long.
-
There was always something off with him. He was always talking about the new 900 Global releases and yet he never posted a single video of him throwing a ball, and he was always talking about the next ball he was going to drill and yet never drilled.
It always looked like he was on the loop with the new releases but never had any of them. It is pretty weird now that I think about it. How can you be on staff and never get to throw any of the new stuff? He was always comparing them with the older stuff that probably he got the chance to throw when he was on staff (if that ever happened)
Same thing he did when he moved to Motiv equipment. He claimed he went to a demo and from there he was basically reviewing every single ball from the Motiv lineup by just throwing it once or twice and he was always talking about which ball he was going to buy and which balls he was going to drill and guess what? He never did...
Seems pretty off to me, for me the guy maybe was on staff with 900 Global years ago, stopped bowling and kept saying he was on staff just because... I don't know what you guys think.

+1.
As I remember it he got the staff position because he ballyhooed 900G not because of bowling prowess. Yes/no? Also, he promised videos for years and never produced them.

An Advisory contract is pretty lax. You still pay for everything- at a reduced cost- so nothing really to lose for the company in financial terms. Interesting he was released from his Global deal when what does Global have to lose? Maybe someone found out about the lack of bowling and the gig was up. Who knows.

Can't argue w/any of this. I remember requesting his vids at some point....always was a reason it never materialized..
-
Every time someone was asking him for advice regarding a new 900 Global release his response was "I haven't drilled yet, but I would go with 40x4x40 or whatever" and as scott said, he was always asking what do we want to see on the reviews that he was going to shoot, that never happened.
I mean, all this years bowling and not a single video/review coming from the guy? Red flag right there...

The fastest way to lose your staff contract, even advisory staff, is for it to be found out you are selling your staff balls. You have to be a complete DB to lose an advisory staff deal.
-
Or....perhaps the name everyone assumes is correct is not?
Just sayin...
-
It’s the right name.

It’s the right name.
And we know that how?
I'm just curious, I don't recall seeing anyone who bought from him coming forward saying it's the right name.

If you google the name the linkedin profile is an IT guy that works at a community college that can't seem to hold a job. It's either the right name or somebody has been setting this up for a long time.
-
It’s the right name because an established user here messaged me his real name 2 days before Average Joe publicly posted it. Same name.

There's also posts in the 900 Global Facebook group years ago by that person that line up with posts made here. Just took a few minutes to search and match by dates posted

Okay, fair enough.
From reading this, it just seemed that it could possibly not be correct.

I know Joe Lichner.
-
The name that is public now - his Facebook page lists Joe as a Facebook friend.
-
I too know, Joe, not sure he's worth bringing into this, i'm confident we have the name right. I reached out to some friends in DeKalb and they reference Jeremy showing up for one week last year and being the "global guy" so everything is jiving here.

Man, this story just gets stranger and stranger. Based on all of the above clues/signs, it sounds like he was a real wannabe looking to feel important or something. Too bad as he seemed okay, but it appears that the truth is probably out now.
-
Normally truth is stranger than fiction.
Plus - it’s easier to fool someone than to tell someone they have been fooled.
-
And, its amazing that working or being associated with a shop gives you the opportunities like he had with 900global. But then again, i see people who are on staff that have no business being on staff.
-
Being on a staff isn't a reflection of talent in all cases, it's about ability to move product.

Not sure.
Every interaction was positive up until this.
I think he was very old school, and had the skills etc.
But life happens and people outgrow the sport, hence lack of bowl dot com info...
Like I said, I hope it gets resolved.

This is quite an interesting thread, I hope there's an ending to it where he reappears or someone gets in contact with him.
Being from the Milwaukee area myself, I have a few mutual facebook friends with him but do not know him. I feel like I at least know who a majority of the northern Illinois bowlers are who bowl tournaments.
Odd situation to say the least.

Hey BR Fam, I'm locking the thread for now.
Doom, if you're reading this, I sincerely hope you're okay and safe. In the big picture, I'm blessed to say that I can live with losing $115. And if you needed it for something, then I hope it helped.
Thanks to everybody for the help! I'm thankful for the different ways to contact Doom. One thing I've learned in 2020 is that 'it takes a village' - and this little bowling village is quite nice :)
Be well and stay safe all!
