Here in Nashville we had 31,000 people show up for the Country Music Marathon. The sports of running, cycling, hiking, golf, tennis, walking, disc golf, race walking, badmitton, volleyball etc... all in the past few years marketed themselves as healthy activity.
With one bill after another in congress regulating smoking, and insurance companies cracking down hard on smokers, overeaters, couch potato's, and sedentary lifestyle people, why is the USBC and Bowling still doing nothing?
The sponsors for the PBA tour include Denny's which is known for bad food containing lard, fat, sugar, unknown grease, partially hydrogenated vegtable oils, and lot's of sodium. It is one of the few fast food restaurants that still allow smoking.
At the marathon today, world class athletes gave their support like former Titan/cowboy Eddie George. How many pro bowlers were here? None!
The point being is this, Bowling is the ONLY sport that still supports alcohol, cigarettes, fast food, and unhealthy living because the USBC, PBA and other bowling entities have never marketed itself as a game that allows for hand eye coordination, strength, stretching and stamina over the normal 3 game league.
Bowling needs to wake up! It is not leagues, $4.00 a game, $300 bowling balls, or lane maintenance costs that have hurt bowling! It is the fact bowling alleys are so unhealthy, dirty, and undesirable for the under 40 generation that value health and fitness.
When I practiced last Sunday, two college age lesbians were making out and feeling each other up next to me, 3 old out of shape ladies in their 50's and 60's were smoking solid for two hours, a poor looking woman allowed her 5 kids to run around screaming trying to get people to buy candy for their school(they ran up to me while I was on the approach), and a couple of hip hop kids were smoking cigars and cursing the whole time, and a couple of redneck boys wearing cowboy hats while bowling were drinking and spilling beers while eating mounds of French fries.
The few families that were there walked out when they saw the lesbians locking lips.
That is why bowling is dead!
Bowling needs to market itself as a healthy activity, not a place were lesbians can make out and rednecks can get drunk.
