Anyone else experienced this?
« on: May 01, 2005, 02:08:00 PM »
Tonight our pair of lanes was MESSED UP! You could throw the ball in the same place, same revs, etc. & not get the same reaction twice. I moved around, changed balls twice & could not get a consistent reaction. It wasn't just me, all the bowlers on my pair was talking about it. It frustrated everyone. I had high series with only a 519 on the pair. How could this happen? I mean the oil could not move that much from one shot to the next then move back again. Never seen anything like it. A little background on our conditions, they dress the lanes in the morning on Sundays & however they are that night, we are stuck with them (after open bowlers, partys, etc...). I adjust to the different conditions, but tonight was something I've never experienced, anyone else?

That is common. If you ever hear someone say they bowled on "spotty conditions", thats basically what it is. Also known as over/under, but o/u happens more or less because of the wrong ball choice. And yes, I have bowled on stuff like that before.

If you haven't bowled on a condition like this you need to:

1. Get off that ths and get around a little more
2. Get out and practice more when the lanes aren't oiled
3. Actually bowl in some tougher tournaments with tough conditions.

No one is accurate enough to throw the ball the exact same way 2 times, and a tough condition can show you just how bad you really are.

Hahahaha is all i can say, I bowl in a house where this takes place. 5:00 put the norm house shoot out there for the 6:30 league 5 person league. Most bowl with plastic balls throwing them stright and all over the place. Tons of carry down. Then my league comes in 3 grand a person for coming in #1. Well cause we voted for more oil and thought we would get the norm house shoot we get this. They change the pattern to a sport pattern and do not strip the lanes. Talk about a big mess. Balls are made to read the pattern right well what pattern is out there? Dirty in the back for who knows how long and spotty everywhere else. Its not fun and me being a bowler for only a year is in over my head.

my house is just like this, all the time, they oil once every two weeks, and actually told us one time we were bowling on an illegal pattern and the scores shouldn't count. I have been in league and the ball was hooking, HARD, at almost 15 ft.  We just have to deal with it, in the long run it will make me a better bowler, but for now, my average is horrible compared to you "House shot" bowlers lol

Stanski, I guess the reason I haven't encountered it before is that up untill 5 months ago I was still using a urethane ball. I had layed off bowling for almost 10 years till a new house opened just 15 min. from my home. Got my first reactive ball around Nov. or Dec. Found out urethane didn't always work very well on todays (most of them) lane conditions. I had left my urethane (by the way, it's an old Track Enforcer) at home. Guess I'll have it with me next week although managment said they'd try to do better in the future. No, my accuracy isn't perfect, but within a couple of boards the ball could cross over or slide by the headpin. I didn't miss by that much. Thanks to everyone for your input in this matter. I respect what you good bowlers who have seen it before have to say.            Ricky
