Title: Can you give me a ball suggestion?
Post by: Ragnar on April 22, 2008, 12:50:44 PM
Any company, while like everyone I'd prefer cheaper, I'm not worried about cost now.
I'm looking for something to replace my Silver Streak Pearl.  Mainly I'm looking for something I can move in (on longer flat patterns) with and play between 15 and 22 boards, without a ton of swing, ie., pretty tight.

Currently(after making a number of changes in my game) I'm a lower track (PAP=4 3/4, 1/4 down), med-hit tilt, higher speed guy.  Maybe around 15-16 revs  (though I havent' really checked this in quite a while).

My SS Pearl was also a bacon-saver on a lot of house shots, playing outside as they broke down.  While this is a useful feature, it's not mandatory for the ball I'm looking for.

any thoughts?

Potential candidates:
Lanemasters Buzz
Roto-Grip Illusion (possibly almost a direct replacement for SS Pearl)
Visionary Ogre Pearl with a higher pin: nice, tight backend type of ball

Thanks guys.  I'm drawn to the Cherry Vibe or the Ogre Pearl.
I had messaged the folks at Roto and they must have thought I wanted something else as they suggested a Cell.  I have a Cell and it ain't what I want for this shot.  It may (at this point) come to pricing and availability thru my local shop.

Well, I'm playing with a polished Cell right now myself, and my first impression is that they might not be far off the mark, with the right drilling. I couldn't guarantee it right now, and I still believe that the Illusion is the logical successor to the SS pearl, but a polished Cell drilled with the right pin and the right MB could very well serve your purpose.

Still, one of those balls I suggested would need less manipulation than a Cell.

While lots of people like/love the Vibes, I'm not sure it would meet the parameters you've set.

Good luck, in any case.

Rags...if you're interested in staying with Roto Grip, you might want to consider the Horizon Pearl.  That ball for me has been a bacon saver several times  this  year and allowed me to play the kind of line that I want to instead of having to search like everyone else.

Its worked for me swinging the ball and playing straight up the boards and for a pearl, isn't really jumpy on the backend.

Think you'd find the ball to your liking.
