I'm gonna give 15lbs a shot
« on: June 11, 2007, 03:37:03 PM »
Everything I throw is 16lbs, and I throw it well. I shot a 666 last week, and a 665 this week in league with my 16lb Black Widow. I'm about to buy a 15lb ball cause I'm curious as to how I will throw it. Will throwing a 15lb ball throw me off? I'm just curious because if it will throw me off somehow, I'm not gonna buy it.

for me when i went to 15 from 16 i did not suffer from my timing getting messed up...the first couple shots before i was used to the weight drop, i threw the ball a lot faster....that is all different now that i am used to the weight drop....i see MORE pin carry with the 15# stuff than i do with the 16# stuff...i don't stone as many 8s or 9s with the 15# as i did with the 16# stuff.....

it will be different from the beginning, but as soon as you get your feel back, you'll be alright....

Just be mindful of the wight difference.  Keep your feet slow, because they will not exactly be "in sync" with your arm.  By the same token, keep your arm slow and steady as well.  I wouldn't try to throw 15s and then 16s on a different shift either; buy a few new 15lb balls if you must.  one more note: most, if not all 15lb balls have higher RG differentials than 16s and in many cases 14 pounders for than matter.

I tried 15 lb about 2 years ago.  I did not have any problems with my timing.  However I did not carry as well.  I ended up going back to 16 lb to increase my carry.  In my opinion, the more you hook the ball, the more likely 15 lb will work for you.  The straighter you throw the ball, the more likely a 16 lb will work for you.

If you can pick up a 15 lb for not much money, do it.  Unless you try it, you will always wonder if 15 lb is right for you.

I don't hook the ball much and 15 lbs works. You just need good roll and match speed with revs.

It will no doubt be harder to throw a 16 faster than a 15, so you will have the ability to variable speed.

Don't know about most but the drop has been hard for me. The 16lb balls fall onto the fingers much easier for me than the 15lb balls. I feel like I don't get the same amount of roll on the 15lb balls so I leave more flat 10's. When I hit flush I do carry more but I feel like the pocket is much smaller.

That's my experience.
