I watched the Oklahoma bowling finals on CBS Sports TV Network tonight. Guppy Troup had a son named Kyle in the finals. I didn't know he had a Son bowling in the pros. Did anyone else see these matches tonight?

I'm having difficulty finding the CBS Channel. Not sure if I unsubscribed accidentally or not. Gotta call Time Warner to find the channel.

According to the CBS Sports Network Schedule, it will be shown again on TV three more times. Go to http://www.cbssportsnetwork.com/schedule/cbssn and do a keyword search for "pba wolf open" and you will see it will be shown again on May 30th and then two more times on June 2nd. I have attached a screenshot here to this post showing this (as well as the channel finder).

I watched it. I felt bad for Bill Oneil. He seemed to be throwing the ball really good and the ball reaction just didn't make sense

Just watched it and I'd have to agree that it seemed that O'Neill was throwing the ball well. It actually made me interested in seeing the Tour X Solid more up close and personal because I liked how it looked. It also showed that urethane still has it's place in people's arsenals. Marshall Kent was getting more and more frustrated after every shot.
Kyle Troup looked like the only one who understood the pattern lol. Congrats to him for his first title.

It looked VERY, VERY difficult.
I wonder if warm-ups ruined the shot or all the urethanes created carrydown. Seems like last year's Wolf was much higher scoring. I don't recall the details but I don't remember thinking it was as difficult as this.

It was interesting that both Tommy and Bill started with the Tour X Solid but had a bad look, then changed to different balls and achieved much better results.
The graphic showed that Tommy switched to a U2 Classic, but it looked more like an EPX to me.

I was there during the taping and the pros threw urethane during warm ups. The oil transistioned very fast during warm ups and it got worse as match went on. I would say they practiced 30 min + before show.

It's on FB somewhere that Tommy switched to a U2 Classic. Even showed it in his bag. I don't think he was carrying an EPX though.

Hand sanitizer, and he ALWAYS wipes his hand on his pants, its part of his pre-shot routine.

There was one time about 5-6 years ago where I was bowling, took a bite to eat, and then used hand sanitizer. As a two hander I will say this. The sanitizer made the coverstock on the ball extremely tacky. It almost felt like my hand was glued to the ball. I havent done it since. But I have pretty small hands and trying to use plastic and urethane two handed; the surfaces of those balls are pretty slick and have a difficult time holding on to them. It has made me wonder about carrying some sanitizer with me and trying to use a urethane ball to see if it would improve the gripping ability.

A lot of guys use urethane, plastic, and even old rubber balls on the short patterns in my sport league. It really makes the transitions nasty unless everyone is playing them the same, which never happens anymore. You could really see Gomez painting himself in a corner with his urethane. Move right, move right again to get some carry, and finally a small miss left is through the beak. I think both Kent and Gomez had Rides in their bag. I would have liked to see that ball on the Wolf. My experience with the Ride is that it is almost as straight as urethane and doesn't jump off the end of the oil like most pearl resin balls.

My only problem when using old school urethane (i.e., my Fab Blue Hammer, Fab Burgundy Hammer, Columbia Black U-dot, or dare I even say my Columbia Gold Dot) on a sport compliant/flat pattern is that it doesn't carry as well as reactive resin. It has to be flush or I'm leaving 10-pins; or even worse, an 8-10. (Essentially for me, it's been my bowling experience that translates into scores in the 170s to 180s.)

You have to know how to use the old stuff or carry is a huge issue. Basically urethane or plastic is only useful if it allows you to go very direct. If you have to go away from the pocket it is not useful. That is why it often works better for us low rev guys than for the guys with more hand and side roll. When you can square up carry is surprising. I find it more useful on house shots than on tournament patterns, unless I can get outside of 6 or 7 board with it.
