gota remember how
« on: December 23, 2009, 01:45:54 PM »
Its been a while since i was on a 5 person league and it looks like i need a crash course on how to bowl with 10 peeps throwing the same (or close to) line.

shadow balls the VE had a great look (2000 +polish) and once scoring started hello 2 pin (right handed) moved left no help balled down to the freeze and smoked the pocket with the last 6 (to bad i couldn''''''''t make spares).  game 2 the freeze started climbing the pocket tried moving left but couldn''''''''t clear the corners and found split city. game 3 the other team (low to no revs) started striking it up. I tried taking hand out and it still went left.  foound the pocket by going back to starting foot position, no rotation(up the back) release (axis was no more than 20 deg), jacked speed up to 19.5 to 20 (pin deck) with the freeze.

wonder if i get my Green messenger resurfaced if it might work there (prob not)

Think further outside of "the box".  Lanes don't transition THAT much during a 5 man team league.  I bowl a second shift 4-person league after a 4-person league and the worst night all year I was around 5th arrow at the end of the third game.

Sometimes less isn't always the best...if you're throwing the ball in the dirt and not moving very much less ball will actually jump more.  It's hard to say without being there but that is the biggest problem I see with league bowlers in general is they think they can move 2 and 1 and switch balls and that be good for the night.

i tried following the oil. moved a toltal of 8 boards with feet, 10 arrows, and 5 at the bp.

What i got was either a 7pin,10pin or a real ugly split.

I moved hand position 3 times, tried pinky finger tucked, untucked, and spread wide, index finger out and in. with all the things i tried it is no wonder my middle game was so low (in the 140's)

in the past i use to love bowling on drier lanes. It was normal for me to increse score form the first to the 3rd.

I may have never had a coach and don't plan on spending mone on 1. i'm lucky i can afford to bowl the leagues and tournaments i do bowl in (house & 2 car payments and 2 children under 6yrs old (and no state assistance)).

I can control my game to a point but the fact that for 4 1/2 - 5 yrs i have been bowling on a good amount of oil my arsenal kinda got away from that of old. that and i think i have increased my revs (thinking that part was in need of the oil volume)

like i said i need to remember how to bowl on dry lanes.  how to bowl putting next to no revs on the ball. Letting the cover, core, drilling do the work.
If thats not in the cards then i guess i need a new weak bowling ball and that will be something that i'll have to save for.

You moved 8 with you feet and 10 at the arrows?

That doesn't really make sense...but even still that's not moving very much.  I never move less than 10 with my feet during the night.  If you're having issues with carry when you move left decreasing your revrate probably will make it worse.

Ask a teammate for suggestions or perhaps one of the better bowlers in the league.  It sounds like your matchup is no good, which means you're in the wrong part of the lane with the wrong ball.  Usually in league this can be fixed by simply moving.

ok i lets see to put this in order...

starting feet position = 8 boards left of cener. target 12 at arrows 5 at bp.

moved feet 2 boards left kept same target still went past head pin. moved 2 more with feet move bp target 5 still went LEFT. moved feet 4 more arrows 5 left orig. bp target then 5 left atill went left.  ried all with diff finger positions then also limiting the revs. thats when the splits came in.

went back to normal feet position then 10 left at arrows and brought the speed up and held pocket and cleared the corner pins.

how far left should i have to move?  stand next to lane 8''s ball return to throw on lane 9? if so then where do i sand for lane 10 (the ball return is in the way.) I line up with right foot first so all boards are with right foot

Im not going to argue with you about what adjustments you made...simply stating you're not moving enough.

You apparently drift right a bit judging by your starting position and where your target is....this is not a horrible thing because I do the same thing.

Because of this I have to get in front of the ball return whenever my target gets left of about 22 at the arrows.  Perhaps you should learn to do this so you can find virgin oil.

The question isn't "how far should I have to move"..it's "how far should I move".  You take what the lane gives you..if you're stubborn and move back into the dirt you will struggle.

Think i figured out / remember how to bowl on drier lanes... but will give it another week. my wed.nite league.

245, 211, 236.... had 5 wrap 10pins and spared 3 of them. missed 1 to start the night off and miseed the 2nd in the 9th fram of gm 2.. that 1 cost me a 700 that and a roll-out pocket shot big 4 split in the 2nd game.

and thats without buying / or redrilling anything.
was a matter of hand, finger position, and throwing with the ring/pinky fingers.

doing this i had a bit too much push down lane so i brought my target closer to the foul line (dots) and that got the ball reading earlier and right into the pocket (at times rolled out but outside the 1 bad leave i really can''t complain cause it wa still hitting the pocket)
