Hot water bath ?
« on: February 03, 2009, 06:02:18 AM »
Hi, I want to do a hot water bath on my bowling balls. I've read Morich's site about sanding the balls down etc. Here's my question.....Can I just soak the balls with the hot water and soap without sanding them. 2 reasons why....1) I have nothing to sand the balls down with and 2) I have no polish to get the balls back up to OOB. It is snowing badly outside so I figured since I am so bored it would give me something to do.Also, will soaking the balls change the coverstock? Will it strip the polish off the balls when I soak them? Thanks everyone in advance!!

the hot water bath works like a charm. i do that with my buzzbomb and my hammer and boy can u feel the oil in the water. soak the ball 15 minutes in a bucket of hot water just to wear u can put your hand in it and not boil water thats bad. once the u feel the oil change the water and put a drop of dawn soap in the hot water and let it soak then repeat until u longer feel the oil in water and the dawn soap do on the first soak. then after all the oil is out the let them air dry for two days.

Pick up some of those yellow rubber gloves that come up past the wrist (like 2$ at Walmart). Ideally you want the water temp as hot as the system will pump out, which is kinda harsh on your body. The gloves make that a non-issue.

They have textured palms so you can use your hands to wipe it in the water rather than using a clean rag every soak.

And make sure you do it repeatedly until you stop seeing oil rise up (I've done as many as 10+ cycles @ 15-30 minutes a soak). Take your time and be patient. If you do it a couple times and think it's good to go, you'll be sorely mistaken.

You'll know when you did it right and enough times. Your first few shots will go through the nose.

Throw it in the dishwasher, Dude.  Just make sure the dry cycle is turned off.  I usually don't use detergent, but some folks do.  Lots easier.

Use the dishwasher man!  I never understood this fascination with hot water baths.  Mostly because these same people that put all this effort to give their balls baths are usually the ones that don't even bother wiping off their balls after bowling a set of games.

Dishwasher is simple:

-put on middle rack
-turn off dry mode
-push button and relax
-take ball out and it is like brand new

yes it is alot more expensive to get your girl friend to wash your balls than your wives, at least dont complain too much at first knowing you are just a fling.
